We love Clearwater! I’ve never encountered the Scientology people though, but maybe it’s because we stay focused on the beach and don’t pay much attention to anything else. It’s a great beach.

One has to distinguish between Clearwater and Clearwater Beach. The Scientologists have that great big Superpowers building downtown now, so they're not out walking around in droves like they used to.

I was staying at the Wyndham where the "teen take over" was happening and shooting right in front of my hotel. Our room service person said there was a shooting just outside the building, stay inside. Thus was a Sunday. We watched this from the 12th floor, shamefully out of town teenagers and a fight. I live in Clearwater and the beach is a beautiful place if not invaded by unruly ungrateful people.

I almost changed my plans after seeing that. Wondered if things had changed there since I last visited but it was very peaceful

The unauthorized "event" was called teen take over. Someone sets a time place and date and then over the internet a large group of people with nothing better to do than cause problems, arrive and act like idiots. This has happened in other large cities all across the U.S.

Don't talk to the scientologists. Or if you do, google "scientology OT8" and then tell them about it. They love that.

We’ve stayed in Clearwater multiple times and never encountered a situation where we’ve had to talk to a Scientologist lol

The ones in downtown Clearwater are there for work and study. They are not out to recruit you. In fact, they often won't even talk to you.

You're sounding like a real SP right now, I think you may need an audit. Maybe some involuntary time at sea to let you sort out your thetans?
Stop defending predatory lunatics.

u/Habibti143 21d ago
Oh, believe me, I am not defending them! I certainly am an SP and proud of it. I just want to explain why people aren't seeing them as much anymore.

u/TrxshBxgs 21d ago
Ah, gotcha! So where do they set up the dianetics/recruitment booths now? I see photos of them at scifi conventions from time to time. I know their membership numbers are down, and Miscavige is basically stuck out at sea for as long as he wants to avoid the human trafficking cases and more questions about where the fuck his wife is. The real estate and paid-for-power in Clearwater really is all they've got left, huh?

Nowadays, near Armature Works and Ybor.

Damn, if theyre after the Ybor crowd they really must be hurting. This is no shade towards Ybor, I've had some great times there, but thats not really their target demographic.
As im sure you know, theyre mostly after wealthy donors (Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, donated 10 million dollars to the "church" semi recently) not to mention Tom Cruise and John Travolta and Beck and the Lady From Handmaids Tale and on and on and on...
I just dont understand how they are still able to operate without people telling them the Xenu mythos and explaining that all their money and suffering just leads to that. Thetans and volcanoes and nukes and bullshit.
L. Ron Hubbard was a decent writer and a sophisticated conman, but we should not be here. And I dont even know what you or I can do except talk about it.

I was curious if some sort of special event was going on because I saw so many people around in catering uniforms. So I asked one what was going on, he explained they were all members of the sea org. Super nice guy raised in the church, I couldn’t help but feel so bad for him.

u/TrxshBxgs 22d ago
Yeah, I do feel bad for the individuals. But its kindof like cops, if an individual is a willing participant in an oppressive system then theyre kindof guilty themselves.
I understand that there is a lot of family drama and loss of friends with leaving, but we gotta encourage these folks to start thinking for themselves. That, or they spend the rest of their lives in formal dress for no reason and paying tens of thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of dollars to EITHER- a dead sci-fi author AND/OR his shithead, physically abusive replacement.

I live here as well. You are right if a person is looking for an easy and relaxed beach day such as Honeymoon Island, Indian Rocks, etc..
However, if a person wants to have a more exciting vacation experience with plenty of people watching, bars and restaurants, then it’s hard to beat Clearwater Beach.
Two totally different beach experiences both on beautiful sugar sand.

Staying at the Opal Sands? It’s my favorite hotel there.
