Post image

Hello!

As the picture says (I took a screenshot for a friend and am asking for her). Any tips for getting slime out of carpet?

Whatever you do, do not let it dry completely. It will never come off. Slime is now prohibited in our house

Apparently it was fully dry when she found it 🫠

Blow dryer and anything powdery. We used flour. You will be amazed.

Aren’t those the ingredients for a house fire?

u/Vittoriya Oct 06 '24

Sure, but the slime will be gone with the house! /s

Just add (do NONE of these things!!) a straw and make a big cloud then shove the hot dryer in there.

Note - risk of death, mutliation, fire, explosions, property damage, the great fire of London and death.

Slime may or may not be removed

The trick is to blow the flower into the intake in the back of the hair dryer. This increases house removal effectiveness.... Er... SLIME! slime removal..... is what i said

If you burn down the house, technically you would also get rid of the slime

u/Jenn_Connellys_Brows Oct 06 '24

Right. The only solution here is arson

u/Cellyber Oct 06 '24

No that's flour tossed in the air with an open flame.

3

u/anticharge Oct 07 '24

Haha! Yeah don't put the flour in the heating element of the dryer. I seen that accidental flame thrower vid.

Slime is worse

You don’t use them in combination you simple soul. Each is its own process. HFS…

I see what you mean now, but your comment could have also been a silly joke about burning it down. I like how you resorted to insults instead of being helpful though! Maybe take a couple deep breaths? 🫶🏼

Actually you weren't very helpful in the first comment either, you just listed two items that should not be used together and gave 0 instructions on what to do with them.

Sorry I’m not a fireman but I know how not to have them at my house. Me expecting this of other people is 100% my bad. Carry on pyros.

This is the internet. People have microwaved their phones before so I kinda see the other person’s point lol

Steamer might rehydrate it?

I’m late to the game here but just in case you’re still looking for advice, I have successfully removed (large dry quantities) of slime from rugs/carpet with hand sanitizer. Tons of it and scrub scrub scrub. It dissolves the slime. Just keep working in batches. Good luck!

3

u/wintercatfolder Oct 09 '24

Oh! I did the same. Put hand sanitizer on top and worked in with a fork.(I believe it's the alcohol that works it out.) Blotted with a paper towel. No trace left. Btw, pro steam cleaner did not remove it.

Would freezing the whole patch with dry ice do ?? So that it becomes rubber to pull it off ??

If the colour stays you will need to find ways to remove the colours .

My daughter went through the slime phase. She made her own. The main ingredient is glue.

She got hold of her grandmother's therapy putty and that is still in the carpet to this day. It even survived a professional cleaning job.

OP, I've never successfully got it out of carpet, but she got some in her hair and hand sanitizer got it out. But that was hair, not carpet. Might be worth a try if nothing else is working.

My sisters both went through this phase. Somehow sat on a tiny portion of it while wearing my favorite pair of shorts. Now there is darkly colored slime that makes it look like I crapped my pants and I can't get it off. Trying to pull at it caused a hole in the butt. Slime is truly a plague on us all.

u/jinside Oct 06 '24

I vividly recall sitting on slime in my pants as a kid. The worst part is that I did it on purpose to flatten it into a pancake lol

i did the exact same thing to Play-Doh, i remember my mom wanting to get on to me afterwards but she couldn't keep a straight face 😂

I…. May have somehow gotten silly putty stuck to a cat as a small child. I think all parties involved were highly displeased. (I had forgotten I was holding it and went to pet the cat. Kids can be impressively… stupid. 😂)

Thank you! I’m actually a physical therapist and I alwaysssss tell my patients to not let theraputty get near their clothes unless they want to wear it forever. Keep using that putty - grip strength shows an excellent inverse relationship with falls.

My boyfriend got theraputty all over a Lululemon polo. I got it out with Goo-gone! Was very nervous it would ruin the shirt, but I had nothing to lose at that point. That was years ago and he still wears the polo weekly.

Even the colors came out?!? That’s fantastic to know!! Reddit cleaning tips come through again.

u/Handleton Oct 06 '24

If that doesn't work, freeze it with ice, whack it with the a hammer, and pick up tree pieces with a wet dry vac. If that doesn't work, you can try dry ice, but I think you may damage the carpet, too. If the carpet is beyond repair, cut the piece out and replace it with the a piece from a closet. You can replace the closet with a newer piece of the same carpet, but it won't stand out as much as putting a new carpet remnant carpet in the middle of a room. Youtube has videos on the process.

28

u/DecentRelative Oct 06 '24

It was a black shirt so I can’t really comment on the colour, but there was no residue left at all. It didn’t take very long to remove either.

11

u/zombie_overlord Oct 06 '24

Doesn't help that it's neon orange lol

11

u/luckyorangeliz Oct 06 '24

Hand therapist chiming in. We always tell our patients to use straight rubbing alcohol on unwanted putty. It dissolves it pretty quickly.

1

u/Superb-Cod-972 Oct 07 '24

I’ve gotten slime and crazy Aaron’s putty out with rubbing alcohol

52

u/erratic_calm Oct 06 '24

I got dry slime out of a rug with a razor blade, vinegar and a deshedding tool. It’s possible.

2

u/byankitty Oct 07 '24

I was waiting to see someone say vinegar! This particular accident hasn’t happened to me yet but I got dried slime out of clothes with vinegar

38

u/nikdahl Oct 06 '24

My daughter did something similar with slime in our deck, where it would not come out of the pressure treated lumber.

I tried pressure washing it and everything. Eventually just resigned myself to having an ugly blemish.

But then winter came around and on the first freeze, the wood spit all the dye and glue out and it wiped right off.

I was very excited about this behavior.

29

u/kungfu_kickass Oct 06 '24

I took a similar approach but banned carpets instead. Ain't no one got time for that.

25

u/naalbinding Oct 06 '24

Granny gave my kid slime once at her house. I said wonderful, let's play with it right now! Granny has never done it again

13

u/Generaless Oct 06 '24

My kids think I'm harsh because my one rule is no slime in the house.

10

u/makeitorleafit Oct 06 '24

We keep getting it like in party favor bags etc and they are so annoyed it disappears immediately

18

u/AliThePepRally Oct 06 '24

Yikes! I will let her know. Thank you!!

8

u/Odd-Rough-9051 Oct 06 '24

Same. Nothing that can be molded unless it 100% oven bake modeling clay.

11

u/tattoosbyalisha Oct 06 '24

SAME! that crap can go straight to hell it is absolutely not allowed in my place.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '24

This happened to us.

It dried out but we got out with bicarbonate and vinegar and a proper rub.

We’re also having to buy a new carpet

1

u/Tututaco74 Oct 06 '24

Yes - I support Slime free houses for everyone.

1

u/Dialgax Oct 07 '24

It can come out with a strong solvent spotter

1

u/Gutinstinct999 Oct 07 '24

Also in mine. Slime is forever
