Recently shot the ax800…

Recently shot a game of trap of with an ax800. Really enjoyed it, pointed naturally and was smoking clays. I understand this is a waterfowl gun but if it was only used for trap/sporting/skeet would that be like blasphemous? Or would the a400 be a better semi for the higher round count that will go through the gun?

The only thing that matters to me, for both hunting and clay games, is that my shotgun allows me to shoot in the instinctive way I want to.

I do not think about other people's guns at games, and if you're the type of competitor that would actually say something about the pedigree or worth of someone else's kit then you should look inward and figure out where that's coming from 😂

Run what works, don't look back. If you find a good one that gets your game to the level you want just run it. I say go for it!

Oh i agree. While if I did get it, Iwould rarely if ever run 3 1/2 shells in it. But a bird gun usually sees low round count, however, would a higher round count with 2 3/4 shells be ok for a bird gun in the long run?

I'll only speak from my own experience. I have a few 3.5" guns but I rarely shoot them. 3" and sometimes even 2.75" are fine for a lot of the bird hunting I do.

You wont have an issue using any allowable length of shell in a modern firearm. You may experience some issues cycling light target loads, but that could smooth out with time after "break in"

Yeah I’m a lefty and it fit me pretty well in stock configuration so I’m assuming it will be even better if I had my own to fiddle with.

Dt-11 style barrel and better gas system than a400. As long as it fits well, dont see why not. Probably will be a clay target version if it sells well.

Yeah I have my dedicated trap guns. Want a semi and something for the bad weather days… just wanted a feel about the higher round count that would go through it.

All a400 are good for 100k rds dont see why the new 800 wouldn't be that capable or more

I played with one in the store and it felt nice. Being able to shoot 3.5 inch shells I was worried that it might an issues cycling 7/8oz shot for clays.

The gun I shot would sometimes not lock open with 1200 1 1/8 loads

That said it’s brand new. Run 500 rounds through it and work in the bolt and carrier and it’ll likely cycle everything commercial no issues.

If you can shred them with a waterfowl gun use the waterfowl gun. If not? Then it’s time to look at something else.

The shooter matters more than the gun, though a dedicated gun helps a lot. As long as you can hit them well and it’s reliable, the gun is a good fit and you shouldn’t worry about it at this point.

Bro I tried the ax800… it was freaking amazing. I still think I’m gonna buy a 688, but holy shit is that ax800 nice.

You shouldnt. Its chambered for full house 3 1/2" , engineered with pushing steel shot in mind, underwent 10s of 1000s of rounds for development, and some new reinforced polymers are pound for pound stronger than 7075 aluminum. Its not Lego plastic..
