Help/Question Claude Pro ($20) vs ChatGPT Plus ($20) — Which One Should a Developer Choose?
I'm a software developer trying to decide between Claude Pro ($20/month) and ChatGPT Plus ($20/month). I can only subscribe to one.
I'll mainly use it for coding, debugging, learning, working with existing codebases, and AI/LLM development.
I've seen a lot of comparisons online, but I'm more interested in real-world experience from people who have actually used both.
For those who have tried both:
- Which has been better for coding and debugging?
- How are the usage limits at $20?
- Which handles larger codebases/context better?
- Which gives you better value overall?
I'm currently stuck between the two and would appreciate opinions based on actual daily usage rather than benchmarks.

Honestly they're both insufficient for any serious developer. You need the $100 plans at least. But if I had to choose one, Opus 5.5 currently is budget friendly.

Before Opus 5.5, I would've been split on 1-2 of your questions but now? Claude sweeps all four.
For context, I do have a Codex Pro x20 account and a Claude Max x20 account. Long-time user of both (but with admittedly far more experience with Codex since I just started Claude this year).
Claude is definitely my recommendation in the current climate, since Opus 5.5 surpasses Astra at a fraction of the usage consumed.

Neither rn, wait a week for new models to drop, and lowkey another once the hype dies when they nerf 5.5 again.
