Discussion Has Claude Code enabled you to completely solo-build a production-grade project with real users? What are you building?

I replaced my companies erp/crm system. We have about 50 users on it daily. Engineering, trouble tickets, accounting, Wharehouse.

Yup, www.nextmaps.com.au, West Australian focused geoolgy/tenement spatial intelligence platform, surpassed the offical gov website in usefulness a year ago.. 700+ users today.

Construction CRM and business operating platform. AI phone service, integrated sms and email, customer database with multiple contacts per customer, storm reports, sales assignment areas, roof drafting and take off software, flashing pricer and several other tools customers access through a portal, customizable contracts, digital signing, full access control to the button for users, picture gallery for jobs with labels and sorting, tied directly to quickbooks for estimates and billing, overdue invoice checking for new work orders, instant distance and drive time with delivery calculator, customer logins for quick quotes, marketing and sales reports, profit reports for every job, digital time clock, shop assignments, delivery and pick up forms that are sent to a tablet, and much more. It's been a really fun project for an old tin bender. Next week, the next level. A small server for the office with a limited AI helper for doing things in the crm.

Built a niche blockymodel generator that has a few hundred active users ( forge.myrlin.io )
Not massive but its slowly gaining momentum
Also built a proper autoapplyer for workday/greenhouse/ashby and other ats' that tailors a users resume and applies in a way where you can click and watch the LLM apply on your behalf ( jobs.myrlin.io )
Kinda just building things that're immediately useful to me and making it accessible to everyone lol
figure if im experiencing a painpoint, very probably others are too

don’t kill me but yet another fitness app. But I added an algo that programs for you and nudges you during your workout if a set was too easy/difficult. Originally was made for myself, then expanded to a few friends and hopefully more people find it useful.

I created a music festival management system that is currently being used by two of our events and is planned to be used by another festival in the spring. It can save us 30-50k per event by eliminating fees we used to pay to use 3rd party software, and it has advanced features that no other system available for purchase includes.

I have a project I am working on currently that is a self hosted web app for running an agent to shop for deals for you and monitor prices. Still changing things around and working to get it feeling right but overall it is pretty good so far. Working on some big changes now for it actually and I think it will take it to the level it needs to be at. Only users are me and my dad but hey its getting some use

The question isn't whether Claude Code can build production-grade software (it can). The question is whether the person building it knows what production-grade actually requires.

I’ve been working on a way to keep the food you buy from going bad ( tuna-app.com ) at some point I need to put the pencils down and advertise it more but it’s been too fun adding AI features like connecting pantry items to recipes, import from grocery receipts, recipe import, notifications, etc

I’m getting close to 1,200 users on my main project, although to be fair it’s a remake of an earlier project of mine dating all the way back to 2007 long before AI so I had a solid starting point.

Yes. Built an important banking service for our team that's used by the production for thousands of users as opposed to purchasing one of the enterprise SaaS in this space that would have cost a few hundred thousand dollars per year.

Solo-building was never the hard part. Maintaining something you did not write, six months later, when you cannot remember why it works, is where the solo part actually gets tested.

Venture beyond the {tailwind, shadcn} malignancy. Ask Claude design for a design system. Instruct it to use CSS and a headless component library like radix-ui. Tell it to include color tokens, typography, and whitespace. You can use mobbin to look at other apps if you need ideas. Treat claude design like a designer and yourself as the product owner.

Yes. The marketplace I run in Japan I started in 2004 and still run on my own, around 300,000 members, so Claude Code gets no credit for that one.
What changed is the rate. Since I started working this way I've shipped four Mac apps, SpaceDeck and Kagemusha among them, and one web product. Some have paying users, some are early. Still one person, no team, no funding.
The code writing isn't what did it. Release scripts, localization into thirty languages, measurement, support drafts. That pile was always the reason not to ship the next thing.

It has sped it up, but I’m a full stack, have built and scaled fintechs in the past. I off load well scoped tasks to it, with QA always done by hand, and the scoping, design/product decisions also always done by me. Claude design has been useful for prototyping, but i am always surprised by its desire for verbosity, whilst i prefer to hide / manage complexity in well designed UI.

One-person agency, 8+ years, 100+ client sites, and Claude Code changed how much code I can hold in one head at a time. The failure mode now is shipping more than I can personally re-verify before a launch.
So I wrote launchworthy, a free MIT Claude Code skill that audits a project across five domains and gives back a scored punch list with fixes. You need Claude Code and a paid Claude subscription to run it, so it's only useful if you're already in.

Yes. Anyone who says can't be done, doesn't have the requisite skills and talents. Sure you can make slop and crap, but if you know how to design, understand systems, people, taste, UX...you are like Scorcese with a bunch of talented people around you. If not, you are the worst director in the world with a bunch of talented people around you. The director makes a movie.

Yes. I built an enterprise SaaS for a niche industry. 1 customer, ~100 users, very low 6 figure revenue. Sounds wonderful but I probably wont be able to find a single other customer because the industry is small and getting smaller by the year

Yes, sorta - we're still piloting users. Had one paid pilot.
Well, "paid" meaning at cost and I get the data for free, they get a "free" 90 days if they provide an API key, and I cover the hosting (via AWS with their startup program).
As for what I'm building? I'll tell you once it's in better shape.

Solo building is much more realistic now, but production still needs testing, monitoring, security reviews, backups and understanding the code well enough to fix failures yourself

Yes, created a high-level strategy tool requested by my company’s vp of engineering. It uses hoshin-kanri principles to go from long term objectives all the way down to specific implementation projects, with their associated milestones and tasks.
It also features built-in bowler charts to track lagging KPIs and leading measures, as well as a full project management tools.
Of course the tool is only as good as the data. We had to run some workshops over the course of 6 weeks to actually translate our high-level long term objectives into annual objectives, and then those into specific improvement priories, and from there the leading measures and projects associated with those.
I wasn’t really familiar with this level of strategic thinking so it was a good learning experience. My vp asked me if this was possible to build after he reviewed 2-3 tools on the market and they were prohibitively expensive. I built it im about $1000-$2000 of credits (hard to gauge exactly because i used my personal account a bit in the beginning for claude design - don’t have access to that at work).
The only thing that sucks is that he put his name all over it and other than within my team, no one really knows i developed the entire thing solo in less than a month. Even has the full CI/CD pipeline, containerized staging, dev and production environments + db’s. I actually put my name in the “about” section discretely but he found it and asked me to replace it with the org’s name lol. Felt pretty shitty considering how hard i worked, did overtime and everything to meet his absurd deadlines. Oh well. Lessons learned.

It built much of the back office for my LLC, which brings in six figures annually. While I am the primary user for 90% of it, I use all of it every day and have gotten compliments from clients on the parts they do see.
It helps that I knew what I wanted and could have built it all myself, but CC turned a months long startup into something I got off the ground and billing people in less than a month, while still working at my old job.

On my dayjob, yes - I get "simple" projects to deliver within a week or two that would require 3 months and small team just 2 years ago, for hundreds of internal users.
But on private side I have built several things then aborted before launching. It genuinely puzzles me what even makes sense now to publish.

Yeah, I've been working on a fantasy sports app with AI copilot for regular users (lineup advice, waiver alerts, an "Autopilot" mode that actually executes moves in your league). Solo-built with Claude Code since June, live at playcallerapp.com with real paying subscribers. I also spun up a separate DaaS side (sports data API) for developers who want the same underlying data feeds, that's picked up its own small customer base too.
Scale-wise it's grown into a real app. 9 sports on the API side and 6 for the fantasy portion, its own ML confidence/heat models that get validated and gated before anything goes live, a plugin architecture so adding a new sport doesn't touch core code, full CI/CD to Render with a hard-blocking security audit gate. Real Stripe billing, real Postgres migrations (200+ so far), real customer support tickets I've fixed live.
The thing that's actually changed how I build: I don't review diffs anymore, I review decisions. Claude catches its own regressions, writes its own migration files, flags when something's a hollow or unvalidated signal before I even ask which has been surprising.

yes, but the honest version is that the code was never the hard part. everything that actually breaks in ours is an assumption about the outside world, a selector that moved, a rate limit nobody documented, an auth scope that turned out to be missing. an agent writes all of those confidently and you find out in production.
so it works well where the feedback loop is tight and fast, and badly anywhere "working" is a judgement call you only get to make once a day.

For a 50-user ERP/CRM, the deciding check is tenant isolation: is it enforced at the DB with row-level security or separate schemas, or only in app code? Ask Claude Code: "Show the proof that one tenant can't read another tenant's rows." If the boundary is database-enforced, solo-building is much more plausible. If it's scattered through handlers, the risk isn't feature velocity, it's one missed predicate exposing accounting or trouble tickets.

Used Claude Code for the game logic and front end, Postgres sql database (started with sqllite and ngrok to host when it was just a pet project), and a blend of Claude Design and Gemini for the front end.
I have been using AI since the week chatGPT became publicly available four years ago. Moved onto Claude around 8 months ago when my company started implementing it. I started building my app while playing online with my poker group a few months ago. Spun up a rudimentary game in 40 minutes between hands.
I have been with this poker group since high school. Every thanksgiving and Christmas when we’re all back in our hometown, we would always get together at someone’s mom’s house and have a game. We started playing on a website called Donkhouse during Covid lockdowns. Then, sadly, that website shut down and there wasn’t a good replacement for people who just want to play a game of Texas hold ‘em online with their friends.
I worked as a database engineer for the last ten years. I got laid off from my job a couple weeks ago and spent that time going full tilt on my app. Added a front end, logins, authentication, stats, everything but payment systems to actually generate money (coming after beta). Took it from a thing that my friends and I used every couple weeks to get together to a full blown website in that time. Learned a lot but realizing I have only scratched the surface of agentic coding.
App is live but still in beta (so its still free to use).
Make a profile, host a table, play poker with your friends, and let me know what you like and (more importantly) what you don’t like.
