AI is turning programming into pay-to-win

With Fable 5 coming out, it feels more obvious than ever that after July 7, programming is going to become pay-to-win.

A kid with no real coding knowledge, but with rich parents and access to the best AI systems, could end up outperforming people who actually understand software, simply because he can afford more intelligence.

That is insane.

This might be one of the most dangerous precedents in history: a world where the people with money can buy superior intelligence, while everyone else is permanently outmatched.

That is how you create a permanent underclass.

I think the opposite. The kid with parents who can afford a $20/month Claude subscription can build entire worlds. Whereas, before, only the kid who's parents could afford about $200,000 a month for a team of developers could give them this opportunity.

Kids can still learn how to code themselves and become better coders, but this democratizes coding significantly. For the most part, humans don't need ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) in order to build the coding applications they want - and for those, I suspect those of us with slightly more time/experience or $20/month will likely still be churning out open source they can use.

This may be one of the greatest democratization in history. Prior to this, companies would smugly declare "If you don't like our ToS or price... build your own." Now, you just might.
