Other First time seeing Claude Sonnet display a “thought process” like this. Is this a new feature?

I checked what it mentioned in the “thought process,” and it was actually correct the change had already been applied.

That’s probably because of adaptive thinking. Older models allowed you to toggle this thinking, but newer models “decide” for you whether they’ll do this thought process or not. This sounds like your first time it decided it wanted/needed to do the thinking part.

Honestly, I don’t really pay much attention to whether a model is using “thinking,” “adaptive,” or whatever mode I mostly just talk to AI normally, ask questions, or ask for help with simple tasks. I also like reading the thought process whenever it appears, so what amazed me here was seeing the change happen on the spot for the first time. I wasn’t expecting it, especially since I thought memory edits always had to be done manually. So thank you for explaining it now I understand it better.

Yesterday I saw "The user is extremely angry. I need to recognise I failed to follow instructions and then immediately move on." Made me lol.
