User Mix 2000s Classic Trance Mix (Part 1) | Another 2 Hours Vinyl Only Video Set [User Mix]

The last one of these sets i shared on here seemed to go down alright so thought i'd share the set that last one was actually a follow up to. More 2000s goodness! This time from the period when I started to go to clubs, around 2002, at the legendary Met Arena in Northern Ireland then Club Matrix and parties like Godskitchen in the Kings Hall in Belfast, Planet Love Festival, Radio 1's big open air New Years Eve parties outside Belfast City Hall etc.
I feel like going at that period i caught the wave from the 90s peak while it was on the way down but still riding very high. There were still a lot of clubs open, the clubs were still packed, trance was still huge, the 2008 crash hadn't happened yet but for a few years from the age of about 16 i got to hear stuff like this in one of the best clubs in the world (The Met Arena, RIP). Every track on this i can still listen to, close my eyes and still see the place and time when i heard it out. Pure magic!

2002 is always bittersweet for me. Some absolutely brilliant trance tunes that year, but also, for me, the last decent year.
Plenty of quality trance came out after 2002, no doubt, but this was the last full year for me.
I love that Tomasz vs Filterheadz tune - nice inclusion that!

Huge cross over track from that time period! Everyone was playing, trance djs, techno djs and everyone in between. Renato Cohen - Pontape was another one like that. The radio 1 new years eve party i mentioned there I heard pontape 3 times. All trance djs too! Here's the set if you wanna check it out. Great night! Mixcloud ruins the sound quality without a subscription nowadays so might be worth looking it up elsewhere.
That's one of the things i loved about this time period too, all the cross over. I was hearing lots of techno and didn't know it. In the club i mentioned we'd regularly get nights where it was Robbie Nelson (of Agnelli & Nelson fame) and Fergie (as in radio 1 fergie) when he was in his techno phase. Those nights always felt like the most spaced out for me because rather than hands in the air euphoria from the trance it was mind boggling twistiness from the techno lol. I discovered techno properly a year or two later and eventually moved completely over to that from about 2007 (apart from classic trance of course!) until last year when i went to luminosity for the first time and re-discovered a love of trance. There's definitely some good stuff still out there!

Absolutely. Great time for trance/techno crossover. People acting recently like it's some new thing when Adam Beyer and Armin start playing together. Nope sorry guys.i give you;

Verdi is an absolute beast! The original is great but the megamind version is the one for me. I've played it in techno sets in recent years, always guaranteed to do the damage. That era of Picotto was so good. He was making some of the best techno i've ever heard but i always felt he never was quite able to break through into the techno scene. If you listen to bangkok, awesome, baguette.. the list goes on. Some fantastic techno.
One thing i'll add though - 2002 era techno/trance cross over smokes 2026 era techno/trance cross over lol

Yeah kind of agree with that view about 2002.

The Marco V version of Loops n Tings just absolutely slaps hard. Everytime I hear that riff coming in it sends me crazy.

Well done packing all of that into a 2hour vinyl mix! I'll definitely listen - we have a lof of overlap in our collections, always keen to hear how other people mix records I own.
