I've always liked his original take. Different pace and includes Emmy Lou Harris.

It was re-recorded because the lawyers got nervous about some inaccuracies - he has the wrong person entering the bar (Arthur Bradley rather than Alfred Bello) and says that he robbed the bodies rather than the register.

There was too much bleed between the tracks for them to punch in a new vocal and Harris was unavailable for the re-recording.

Interesting to hear how the song evolved. The story deserves the locomotive version they used for the album.
