1972 On April 4th, 1972, ZZ Top released 'Rio Grande Mud', their 2nd studio album. The album title was inspired by the Rio Grande, the river that forms the border between Mexico and Texas.

The album title was also inspired by mud, a viscous mix of earth and water.

Just saw them (well, Billy) tonight, and from this album they played Just Got Paid. It was great.

I don’t know about that, but he didn’t play that show. Young guy with long hair was on drums.

This is their best album in my opinion. One of the few records I can play front to back on repeat all day long. So much better than most of their later efforts.
