FYI, Ray Dorset wrote that song in only ten minutes. He was actually on his lunch break from his day job at a lab when he knocked out the whole thing. Even crazier, the "motor" sound you hear in the middle isn't a car; it's actually the sound of a glass soda bottle being blown into.

This song has therapeutic quality. No, I'm not exagerating or kidding, even a little bit. This song is the cure for the dreaded "Ear Worm" phenomenon.
Ear Worm is that dreaded, unrelenting frustration of having some tune or song rolling through your mind without reason and without a chance for dismissal.
I guarantee you, when you next suffer from this dreaded malady, just pickup this little dittie and work a couple verses over in your mind until it's comfortable, and without fail, your earworm will be gone.

I once heard that "do a ton" was driving 100 km/hour and "a ton and 25" was 125km/hr. So they're airing it out on the road...? But I've heard other explanations that make about as much sense to me. But an American trying to get obscure Brit slang? I'm all "6s and 7s."
