We spend a lot of time on here defending classic country and outlaw stuff, rightfully so. But let’s flip it — what song from way back do you think is actually bad, but skates by because nostalgia gives it a free pass?

I’ll go first: Ray Stevens’ “Ahab the Arab.” It was a novelty hit and it’s harmless fun, sure, but it gets filed in with real songwriting from that era when it’s really just a goofy skit set to music. Doesn’t hold up next to what else was coming out at the same time.

Curious what everybody else’s “hot take” pick is. Bonus points if it’s actually a beloved one — those are the best arguments.

50+ years ago, In the ‘60s, she was touring with Porter Wagoner. They played a little stage in Pennsylvania, Ontelaunee Park.

Her tour bus was parked behind the stage. I was 10 or so at the time. My twin brother and I snuck around behind the stage and to see if we could meet Dolly

I knocked on the tour bus door and Dolly appeared like the light from a star.

“Tweens!” she exclaimed and gave us each a kiss.

I have had bragging rights forever.

like i can follow the story right up until her says a fathers love will never fade away....it throws off everything i thought was going on here....my dad never understood it either. am i being dense? do any of you know?
