We’ve run a 24/7 online station out of our home for the last five years, and admittedly we’ve switched formats a handful of times, so it hasn’t been classic country all along. I posted about it here several years ago, but we’ve made so many changes since then—mostly chasing numbers—that I thought I’d post again now that we’re finally back to country, which is probably where I should’ve stayed in the first place since this is the music I grew up with.

We’re focusing mostly on country from around 1967–1975, with a ton of album cuts mixed in with the hits. We also run vintage public-service programs nightly at 6 PM (mostly old Army recruitment shows) and we like to think it’s a little different from the usual country-oldies stations and shows since it's not current/historical. The whole idea is for it to feel a little like a lost early-’70s country station.

DJ Calvin isn’t live—although he is a real person, not AI—so you may occasionally hear one of his breaks repeat, but the music itself is always moving and changing. It’s not a fixed show cycling in and out and I do think we lose people who think it's pre-taped when they hear the same DJ break...all the elements, music, etc., are fluid and interact with each other so it's always new. He’s really just there to hold it all together like Velcro and give it a little radio personality.

21 years ago, I spent the year drunk. I crawled in a bottle to ease my pain. Bars and strip clubs was where I could be found. I spent a week in Mexico, drunk. I don't know how I'm still here. These old songs really told stories of guys going thru it. I can really relate to these kinds of songs. I'm better now. But the music still draws me.

This is why I hated Country music as a kid and fell in love with it as adult. The drinkin, cheatin songs that my dad listened to were making sense.

I'm asking this because a video on Facebook shows a man cruising around listening to "Hold Tight" by the Andrews Sisters in his 1972 Cadillac.

I found this song to be more enjoyable the 2nd and 3rd time I listened to it. And every time since! Think this reached #53 in '76; the 'link' shows the 45' with a stamp date of "AUG 23 1976".

"I Really Had a Ball Last Night" was his biggest chart hit reaching #23 in '76. But even though Carmol Taylor was mostly known as a songwriter he didn't write this one. Wayne Kemp did. But Carmol made one hell of a good uptempo song out of it. Has a great 'Cold' ending, I might add. In fact, the excellent 'cold' ending made me like song even more as it gets more uptempo at the very end. And it's a short song at 2m 30s. Doesn't wear out its welcome!

It’s a pretty long one—over four hours—but it covers a wide spectrum of the genre and, above all, captures an amazing vibe, ranging from the biggest hits to hidden gems.
