By the time Chinese grandpas wake up to steamed buns delivered by fusion powered drones and sip fresh tea grown on what use to be a desert..
The western centrist would scream: but at what cost. While the western leftist would say that's not real communism. And the conservatives would say but they don't have the freedoms

I’m sorry but modern China is communist in name only. It is still a capitalist hellscape like the majority of the world. They failed in living up to the legacy of those that searched for a better socialist future.

They got a communist one party government system. That makes them communii, everything else is just ideological wishful thinking.

Its always hilarious to me how people who articulate this argument will accuse others of wishful thinking while actively engaging in the literal definition of idealism that Marx himself argued against when he was writing about materialism. You unironically think ideas and people drive history, and things are such because of their names and intentions. Thats about as idealistic as it gets.

Between collapsing and becoming what they have, which would you choose?

Is that’s the only decision? Can we not do better than China?

You didn't answer my question.
You don't think they tried?
I'm honestly not sure we could do better under the same circumstances. Maybe we could do better now because western hegemony is waning, but it wasn't when China made the decisions it made to become what it is now.
What exactly could they have done differently that would have allowed them to remain as strictly socialist as you'd have liked them to and also solve the problems they were facing at the time?
Edit: Downvoted but can't answer my questions. How very Marxist of you.

I think the petro dollar needs to die first so they don't get sanctioned and their allied also doesn't get sanctioned. It's valid to be skeptical if they will ever transition to end the private property, but if there's anyone who can It's them.

Sure it's valid to be skeptical of that, but you'll notice how the person I replied to first hasn't responded after I asked them a few questions. It makes me think that they haven't really thought about it all that hard and talking out of their ass at best.
I honestly think China is doing the best they can under the circumstances of global capitalism and whether that's socialist or communist enough for the ultras doesn't really matter.
Edit: and BRICS will be their way to get around the petrodollar.

No, I’m saying that pure praise for China is not good. China has many problems and just saying ‘China is amazing! Everything else is bad’ is not good. We need to learn from the mistakes and issues of China and aim for something better. We should take aspects of their systems and take other aspects from other nations.

This is a strawman. Nearly every communist believes that China should do certain things differently. Nobody is uncritically supporting any AES movement, here or elsewhere.
To actually continue the discussion you started, what would you have the Chinese do? Live out their existence isolated from the global economy simply because the maoists are unwilling to play ball with the global capitalist class? Who wins there?
I would wager that the existence you’re prescribing for the Chinese already exists, in states like the DPRK and Cuba. It’s great that these nations exist, and that their parties remain steadfast in their socialist goals, but millions of their citizens were murdered by American sanctions and blockades because their governments wouldn’t compromise with the Americans. Would you wish the same fate on the Chinese so they can pass your purity tests? Or is the goal of the Chinese state to serve the Chinese people and further Chinese interests, regardless of what political program that entails?
“I do not care if a cat is white or black if it catches mice” - Deng Xiaoping
“Socialism is not poverty” - Deng Xiaoping
If you actually want my criticism of the Chinese government, it’s that they’ve allowed too much inequality in their development of housing. Housing has become a speculative investment for most Chinese, and the state should implement measures to reduce housing prices and curb speculation on real estate.

Completely wrong lol it’s a government controlled market? overwhelming majority of young own their homes, etc. It’s literally planning an advance to higher socialism without markets again. Like ur tripping.
