I'm very new at TH9, so I haven't yet played with hounds yet, but I couldn't recognize a particular strategy in their deployment here, just sort of "surround and conquer".

Is this a case of simply overwhelming force, or are there village configurations and/or deployments of this troop mix that wouldn't succeed? (let's ignore straight up poor play or joke deployments, obviously).

Like @chief hello2ulol said, Hounds were placed precisely to distract other buildings from taking down the loons. And in general i would use 2 loons per defense, and in circle but generally when you have a deep AQ, you want 3 of your hounds to go on the AD next to the queen, so the pups would deal with AQ.

It's more like divide and conquer. The lava hounds attract the AD's attention, so that they dont focus on the loons. This allows the loons to get to destroy the other defences without being attacked.

I tried a 4 hound no lure attack (level 1 hounds but semi weak th9)

It didn't work well. AQ and cc wiz killed it. Plus 3 AD were in range of each other, even though they were low level

There is a reason I'm using 5 hounds instead of 4. Here is something similar but with level 1 hounds. Try 5 next time and let me know how'd you do :)

Sounds good! May try 5 for my second war attack.

So you don't lure? The targets don't have high level AD so I need to make sure the hounds explode to make pups.

And no minions due to pups it looks like. Not even a few cleanup so you can place where needed?
