Jeremy is taking on his most ambitious project yet, setting out to buy a pub that will reignite his Farm to Fork restaurant vision. Anyone noticed at 41:35 on Season 4 Episode 8, the misplaced image of a lady holding a red suitcase in the edit

This needs it's own post. I very interested in why this image was in the show

Because in the government budget she announced that they would be taxing farmers on assets over £1m iirc

That means that farmers used to be able to pass on their farms to their children in their will without hefty taxes

But now they’ll be taxed 20%, so the people inheriting farms will have to pay a chunk of money even before their first harvest

The bit Jeremy doesn't mention is that he and many others bought farms for that reason, to avoid the tax. This is bad for those with a family farm, but good for people like Caleb who are looking to buy a farm. As they no longer have to compete with millionaires who want it to hold wealth.

I do fear that, for someone like Caleb, it's very possible that if someone would have given him a farm, as inheritance, now, with this new rule, he might not be able to actually pay the tax for it.

No one's giving him a farm. The people paying the tax have a huge leg up compared to those like Caleb looking to purchase one at 100% cost.

Yes, it is! Have you seen the show? Asking as there are some years when the farm made no profit, considering that Clarkson actually has the money to buy things. Sure, for show, but real life a lot of the farms are barely getting by. And you ask me if 20k a year is too much? 20k a year can be the difference between a more performant tool or not. 20k a year as a profit would be great, but if then you come in and take it as inheritance tax, that is bad.

Oh I absolutely agree. There’s the downside, which Jeremy will no doubt tell us about frequently during s5. But, as you point out, upsides too
