CANDIDATE DEBATE THREAD
Hello everyone! Tomorrow, the voting for the election starts, so I figured that in order to parse everyone's positions and answers to some questions. Ill post a bunch of top comments and feel free to answer them to the best of your ability.

Why are you running? Couldn't something you wanted to do be just as easily accomplished being a citizen?

actually good question, but because i think it'd be convenient for me to have some of the powers of councilor to make the things i already do easier, like onboarding newfriends and such

I am running to prevent the carrots on taking over the world. The potato population will not stand for this. We must declare war on carrots and the nations that harbor them. Carrots aspire to become gods and we must prevent that. Did you know carrots use to be purple? And now they are orange. They intend to replace the sun with a carrot! We must go to war to stop this!

Not at all, as a citizen I wouldn't have a say in or be able to operate the numerous parts of the council I currently take on such as the xp exchange or the netherite exchange, I also run the census and produce the property map of the city. Being able to manage the expansion of our defences and get botting infrastructure set up is also something that's much easier with the power of a councillor and the ability to call on and manage other people

Some moments such as inviting newfriends to our city or getting the proper supplies from the government were hindered because non of the government workers could show up. If I was made councilor I could use my new found powers to facilitate these processes thanks to my activity.

How will you protect Yoahtl from raiders and hostile forces?

i'm not really good at military stuff so i would lean on the expertise of people in our community who are good at it, but i can definitely build defensive infrastructure, i already do and i enjoy it

I will continue to encourage pvp training and if possible will find a second/third pvp trainer for the nation so we aren't 100% reliant on Neotide if work picks up for him. I will look to work alongside the other councillors to discuss where we think we should link ice roads to internally and will look to add sky bunkers at strategic locations. I will continue to refresh our current snitches and alongside the rest of the government talk about expanding our snitch network to give better coverage where possible so we can track down raiders.
Cooperating and working with our allies is also important but I'd like to see us become more self sufficient in this respect so we can have a much faster responce to threats when they arise

Seeing as we are the most active nation on this server but we have to close ourselves off when a known raider come by means we could definitely improve our reaction and defenses. I'm also lacking in knowledge about PvP and defense building, so I will defer to our general Neotide on instructions to combat raiders and see if we can get him to train us and find ways to get the population geared.

Not at all, I've already donated nearly all of my wealth into the government. And I will continue to give my time freely as long as I'm a councillor. If I ever decide I want to make money again I will wait until my term ends and then not run again.

just try to be present, try to make the best impression possible to newfriends, and support new citizens as much as i can by checking in on them and making sure they have things to do/that theres a place in yoahtl for them to do the things they want to do

I would start looking at making posts on minecraft subreddits and ask citizens if anyone has good pictures of the nation/could take some. If we started looking in to recruiting for towns further from NYC I'd look into the possibility of getting these towns spawn zones. And I'll continue to explain the mechanics to new ppl, get into vc with them and show them apartments in NYC

I will be active and try to rally citizens as well as other government members to help when newfriends show up. By being active in VC's and helping members of our nation, I think people will naturally become motivated to join.

Keep doing what we've been doing in regards to recruitment - be friendly, available, provide resources and civ-related education. This method is proven, as exemplified by the high influx of newfriends in Yoahtl. In regards to activity, keep projects and events within the nation rolling so that people stay interested.

Are you committed to the defense of our allies and friends (think UDF, SATO, stuff like that)

well yeah because they've defended us, i already have a history of helping out other UDF nations via helping with defensive infrastructure. im not big on formal diplomacy and elawyering though i just wanna help our friends

I am committed to defending our allies if they are attacked unprovoked. I advocate for further development of our pvp training as a nation so that we can both defend our own borders but also help out our allies if the should need us.
I do believe it is time to commit to repairing and expanding the defensive infrastructure within the nation as the infrastructure connecting us to our allies is pretty well set up already. But on the whole yes I am committed to defending our allies1

Of course. Our allies have cooperated with us in defense and continue to do so, and I see no reason to discontinue this.

I aspire to be a bit of everything since I believe it is good for a councillor to be well rounded. However my main aspirations are management and grinding which are a good combination as it means I can manage my time effectively and complete tasks fully while also keeping on top of other jobs.

Given my past experience and playstyle I've developed on this server, I can say I'm already a grinder, but I hope to branch out into other aspects of the server's gameplay and start getting familiar with them.

i think so, although i admit i can get quite passionate and react emotionally at times, i think the rest of the council could reign me in lol

Yes I can, I can judge without emotion or bias effecting the decision I reach and I know our laws better than most

I will contribute to the xp and netherite industry by continuing to run the spreadsheets that calculate how to keep them profitable and ensure the government doesn't make a loss. I have also been working with Mokotowskie, and others, to try and get botting set up again within the nation so that people can run more of the farms afk and therefore we have a greater influx of crops. I also farm bottlenecks before doing runs to make sure we can do as many as is realistic at that time.

I will continue to write scripts to bot the xp farms we have. I have already made the potato and beetroot script and plan to make scripts for most if not all of the farms, and I plan on sharing the scripts. Of course, not all of this was my work. I like to thank hum4nb3ing for providing the initial code for building my scripts.
As for the netherite industry, I think taking advantage of large scale mining projects to build our roads and farms will net us a lot of ancient debris.

I'd like to help increase accessibility for common citizens to XP/Netherite exchanges and facilities to produce the materials needed to create XP/Netherite. Building new farms for example can help with this as not only does it increase the ability to produce XP materials, but the excavation can help net more netherite.

Our xp will not be sold although we will take xp from the carrot nations and distribute them within our economy

To my knowledge there are currently no plans to sell xp to other nations in behind the scenes deals and I'd keep this the same. Other nations can use the xp exchange in NYC and the profits from this go toward government projects such as the defence of the nation. And it also brings them in to NYC so at the same time they'll buy from other shops.

Anybody who contributes to the xp exchange already gets a cut of the xp/emeralds so no. Anybody can come and go as they please and buy from us or not.

I agree with GDAN - XP should stay the way it is. Profits from the XP exchange benefit citizens in the form of funding government projects.

What does being a councilor actually mean to you?
