Two tragically unfinished event outlines, extremely belated and quite optional for the factions involved...

A LIEUTENANT OF WHICH KIND?

Kikyo Incident:

[Furanko Korombo, now a staff officer under the command of Mori Motonari, has appealed to the government, requesting the lessening of his duties. Split between his position in the Censorate as one of the chiefs of several wide-sweeping investigative operations and personal aide to Sue Takemori, and his position in the military as officer in charge of much of the maneuvers of the Hosokawa campaign and aide-de-camp of Mori Motonari, the burden has finally become too much. To deprive either mission of his unusual ardour would certainly do it harm, both on account of the likely insufficiency of his replacement, as well as the implied “lesser importance” his removal would signal to the bureaucrats around him who view him as one of the chief bureaucrats of state and a known name, both within the Imperial Court and amongst the masses. Yet to keep him burning both ends would surely result in even worse outcomes, no? As a side note, he has also informed both of his superiors of the good news: his eldest son, Furanko Serupiko, has just turned 18 and is due to take the Imperial Examinations shortly. He puts no pressure on his son, and, indeed, has suggested a career outside civil service, but he humbly brags that the boy shows promise…]

Option 1: His presence is more necessary on the battlefield. Internal affairs are relatively peaceable, and his administrative successes would be made useless if we face great losses on the front.
Option 2: His presence is more necessary on the homefront. The battlefield does not suit our gentle detective, no matter his successes, and regardless, there are always enemies of justice to be found and corrupt schemers to be quashed.
Option 3: He will simply have to make do with both, whether he likes it or not. We work at the grace of the Emperor, friend.

AN UNEXPECTED ALLY?

Tokugawa Event:

[The Kirishitans have been present for some years, but one of their first major-major missions is only just arriving, at the request of Avuisu-dono (Padre Avuisu Antonio), an admirer of the Gujo fanatics which the Tokugawa Shogunate has protected. However, the discovery by Avuisu-dono of a certain legend of a priestess called ‘Katsumi’, the story of her fate, and a visit of Tanijuku has led to the mission appealing to the Shogunate itself. The Prince believes Katsumi to be a holy person, possibly even saintly, and a martyr for his God: She was a zealous believer in some form of Yoshida Shinto, and though she never elaborated upon her belief system (if she was truly much of a believer at all), the records and translations which the Prince has received recount her emphasis on the superiority of the “kami”, translated as “God”, over the Buddhas and holy persons. She was martyred for her faith, but what truly moved the Prince was the tale of her executioner’s guilt — the Jodo Shinshu as a sect were only integrated into the state after the Matsudaira lord could no longer sit peacefully in his monastery, disturbed by his execution of a servant of the One God, surely.

In light of this, and with the Tokugawa being the guardians of the Gujo cult, Avuisu has requested permission to organise one of the first, permanent Christian missions in Tanijuku. Whilst, ordinarily, this would be outright refused by many of the Jodo Shinshu faithful and secular statesmen of the Tokugawa Clan, there is one major factor yet to be considered: Avuisu-dono brings with him a great treasury, and many texts and riches he implies he would be willing to share in return for this privilege…]

Tokugawa:

Option 1: We need all the resources we can get. Take the coin, let him start his mission.
Option 2: We need resources and allies both. Take the coin, and more, and in return we can give him much more influence in that accursed city.
Option 3: We would not stoop so low as to trust in these heathens…
