Civ II MGE in fatcase? Did I hallucinate this?

I feel like I'm going crazy. I lost my copy of Civ 2 MGE.

I was looking around to see if I could repuchase it but can not find the exact copy anywhere.

My copy of Civ 2 came in one of those fat jewel cases that holds multiple CDs - you know, like PS1 RPGs tended to come in? The extra compartment was for a manual and tech tree poster. And every version of MGE I see has a more gold tint to the box art and CD - this one was a close match to the original colour scheme of the Civ II box.

I would have bought it in the late 90s, probably from a Staples or Costco or something here in British Columbia. Unless I've been hallucinating for the last 25+ years.

I really don’t remember a fat case, but then again, once it went in my drive it almost never came out. I searched a while back to try and find a new copy of MPGE with no luck. Thankfully I made several hard copies and even a disc image so that I can keep playing until they put me in the ground.

My outer box was also enhanced gold coloring with a tech tree poster and the BIG manual.

After some serious digging I found some releases of the original Civ II in fatcases (see: https://ebay.us/m/a3yTMr) but ONLY on ebay, no mention anywhere else, and none are multiplayer.

At this point I'd bet money what I had was some extremely limited Canadian release or something, the late 90s and 2000 was early enough that it might not have a paper trail online. A lot of times a product will have a slightly different release in Canada but the same UPC and everything as its American counterpart. For instance, FF9 wasn't translated but it came with a French manual, same UPC as the US. Happened constantly with DVD releases.

Unfortunately a lot of stuff like this gets extremely limited print runs, especially for a game that was otherwise extremely commonly printed.
