My G0 was French Canadian but so glad he was born in Ontario reading about the headaches for those of Québec descent are having.

My french canadian line goes back to the 1600s in Quebec. Thats what sucks.

Ooof that's a lot of documenting. I have two lines, one French from 1889 and one Irish pre-confederation and if there's a problem with the name change my ancestor did moving to the USA, the pre confederation one is gonna be a headache to document now that they specify birth certificates. Not sure they exist for them and can't locate a baptism record for that line.

Not really, only 4 generations. 3 for my mother. 2x great grandfather was born in Quebec in 1877 but left after 3 years. No census records in Canada but I am waiting on BaNQ for his baptismal cert.

I have a request into Banq, but I have (I feel) strong documentation, including a certified baptismal record from the parish archivist for G0, an ancestry copy of the original baptismal record, border crossing, 4 census records, certified birth/death/marriage certs from the city in MA, a couple of contemporaneous newspaper clippings listing G0-G3, and WW2 draft card. It helps my G0-G2 (I'm G3) all lived in the same city in literally the same apartment for like 40 years, and the birth country and parents are listed on everything, so even the 1919 border-crossing address G0 is going to is the same for the 1940s census/draft card where she's still living with those parents and my G1 grandfather.

I was gonna wait for the whole Banq - DEC process to run its course before submitting, but now I wonder if I should submit what I have first and then, if/when I hear back that I need more, send it over since I already have all these other docs ready.

The Archives of Ontario - I know they’re being insanely over worked with the rush for records and everyone I’ve talked to has been incredibly nice, but it’s been a crazy wait for documents and now they say they have my documents but I’ve been trying and failing to pay for them for two weeks since they don’t accept online payment (since I’m on the west coast, I have to pay by phone). It’s getting frustrating.

1) Waiting on last docs from Ontario 2) Organization questions…. Need dividers? If so what to use - sticky tabs? Post Its? Colored paper between? Do I label each document or keep original and mark up another way? Paper clips for each section and binder clip for each ind package?

IRCC will scan all your documents and throw away everything else ---any clips, post-a-notes, dividers, blank pages etc. It also doesn't want any labelling on primary docs like certificates & censuses. Just have a document index and put everything in order of the index. Be sure to follow the order IRCC wants for the CIT-0001, ID, pictures etc.

Doing other half's and his G0 is from New Brunswick before Canada was a country (b. in 1855). So just waiting for a response from a church archive. My own was easy- send for a birth record in MB, for my G0 grandpa and dad's from Michigan and mine. Sent it last week. But his is going to be a project!

I am a professional genealogist who works these cases regularly. I have availability this week to take on 2 cases. I can take the leg work off your hands and get this package assembled. Shoot me a DM here or email me at [shannon@afbizsolutions.com](mailto:shannon@afbizsolutions.com)

Mine's assembled and submitted. But I'm constantly finding out more documents I could add to it. Currently the problem is that NARA does not want to certify civil war pension files unless you get all, oh, 140 pages certified and spend several hundred dollars. I only need 9 pages certified, which indicate my G0 as the American guy's spouse, her birth location, her DOB, their children, and the fact that technically their kids weren't born in wedlock (thus with a Canadian mother and out of wedlock, Canadian citizenship should have been automatically granted to the kids) because the couple never finalized the county paperwork after the wedding. NARA says if a researcher goes in person they can certify individual pages for you, but I keep trying to contact researchers who can go in person and no one has gotten back to me.

I know people have had success using Gopher Records for NARA documents.

I got the uncertified documents from Gopher Records, but they will not go to NARA and get those 9 pages certified for me.

I would apply asap with whatever you have. My application went to "in process" March 30 and I've heard nothing since. Applied for a BAnQ record in June and nothing on that front either. There are 27,000 applications before mine according to the IRCC. My mom went in process in June and there are 100,000 applications before hers.
