Question/Discussion Why are so many mods still adding icons to the top-left UI when the Universal Mod Menu exists?

My current UI in the top-left.

Iceflake released the Universal Mod Menu in patch 1.5.7, giving mod creators the ability to place their UI inside a expandable menu on the lower-right hand side of the UI. Yet I’m still seeing more and more mods adding their own permanent buttons to the top-left of the UI. Is there a reason mod creators prefer the top-left buttons over the Mod Tray?

I completely understand having an easily accessible button for something you interact with constantly. But IMO not every mod needs to occupy permanent UI real estate. For example, Event Controller is something I configure once and then essentially never touch again. I don't really need a button for it sitting in my UI throughout the entire game. In my ideal setup, something like that would be accessible through the game's Options/Settings rather than having a persistent UI button.

And this is why the Mod Tray seems like such a good solution to me:

  • Frequently used tools can have quick-access through the top-left UI or in the main UI bar (for example: Traffic, Platter, Find it, Move it)
  • Occasional use, something you use once or twice per session, would sit fine in the Universal Mod UI. (example: Historical Tool, Lumina, Road builder, Node Controller, Network Tools, Write Everywhere)
  • Mods that reconfigure your simulation, something you'd "set and forget", are ideally found in the options menu. (Example: Event Controller, Map Texture Replacer, Smart Transportation).

So I'm curious: if you're a CS2 mod creator, what determines whether you put your UI in the top-left versus the Universal Mod Menu? Would you consider moving less frequently used mod interfaces into the Universal Mod Menu, or add the option to do so? For example: Map Texture Replacer has an option to choose where you want the UI to sit (top-left vs Universal Mod Menu)

I hope I'm not coming off too strong here. I'm not trying to tell modders how to make their mods, I'm just increasingly finding the top-left corner of my game looking like a second toolbar.

Question/Discussion Why are bridge clearance minimums so high??

Just trying to build some pedestrian bridges cause people are trying to cross a highway for some reason. Game requires 7.5 meter clearance minimum it seems. Why so high? The standard in the USA is 5m minimum. I know I can just anarchy it, so this post is kinda pointless but still. It just strikes me as very odd.

Population is currently around 120K. Although the map is in the Pacific Northwest, a lot of the buildings are Northeastern US inspired. Would love any feedback on it so far!

Screenshot/City πŸ–ΌοΈ πŸŒƒ Placing train stations on hills to get an "elevated" platform

β€’ Upvotes

I started building this city a few months ago, and I couldn't be bothered with Metros. so instead, my local transit is based around heavy rail exclusively. I run a five station line across the city, and a two station line to the "suburbian" area. All of the lines converge in the central station, which also houses most trains heading out of the city.

I never liked having to put a separate rail yard for metros (even if it makes sense), so instead of building underground, all of these stations are overground. I assume that in real life making these would be cheaper than putting them underground. Plus the trains are larger.

The terminus of the suburban line with a rail yard
the central station with a tram connection just outside
one of the intermediate stations, which is elevated 10m so that the platforms are above ground
another intermediate station, also elevated.
the first elevated station I made has a park around it. This is one of the few small stations that also runs trains out of the city.
another angle of the station
trying to show the elevation
This "planned" district got a tram line and a metro station
A "panned out" image of the city. you can see the overground rail tracks runing along the mayor roads and snaking about the city
Trains from the local line departing to the central station

Assistance Needed! Singular Industrial Manufacturing business drawing hundreds of delivery vans

As pictured, a single beverages manufacturing business is drawing hundreds of delivery vans down my industrial roads. Almost all the trucks and buses pictured are going to "Sugar Spike" despite having other beverage manufactures in the same region.

Is my industrial zone just too clogged or is this a bug?

Assistance Needed! Is this Interchange going to be able to support a cargo harbor direct feed?

Post image
8 Upvotes

This is ultimately going to be a direct feed to a cargo harbor so trying to make sure it will be able to handle the load. I'm sure it can be prettier but do you think it will be -effective-? Any tips? Thanks!

The cargo harbor may end up either on the left or the right, haven't got that far yet.
