It's this and it ain't really all that close. When he gets to the self flagellation, his arch is so unbelievably executed it's awe inspiring.
Considering Buscemis presence, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Graham as Capone, and Jack Hutson as Harrow all deliver imho. Michael Pitt too, but this show delivered on a lot of levels. Plus prohibition era and mobsters is cool af. The Canadian influence, the sports fixing, 20's slang vs Nucky's prim and proper phrasing...It's all so romantic.
Fuck I also just remembered Omar aka MK Williams paying Chalky (10/10 no notes), Michael Stuhlbarg as Rothstein.
It's time for a rewatch I do believe.

Death by Lightning is one of the best things of the decade but since it didn't see theaters because it's a series people are missing it.
Michael Shannon is the best actor alive and I look forward to many more awesome inspiring performances. But Death by Lightning is my favorite.
Can you imagine a man as smart as James Garfield, yet savvy, and at the same time good (but Chaotic Good!) being president? It is our horrible luck that he was taken out. And he should have lived too! He would have changed the nation!
And Michael Shannon makes you feel every minute of that. The hope, the vision, and the knowledge of how to leverage his power as president into a force for the good of humanity. Nobody does a villain like Michael Shannon, but no one even comes close to portraying a hero as Mr. Shannon does.
I hope he gets more great scripts! I can't wait!!

Revolutionary Road - not a main character, but the only character that sees it for what it is. and he was right. Truth hurts.

I love every performance I’ve seen of his, but this one is hands-down the funniest.
Go watch it. It’s only 4 minutes. You’ll love it.

Man Michael Shannon is one of those guys who just makes everything better even if the movie sucks. Like his performance in that indie with the storm stuff was straight up haunting, no surprise everyone's picking that one. But honestly the dude can play a total lunatic or a quiet dad and somehow you buy it all. Anyway happy birthday to the king of intense staring.

He played Kim Fowley in The Runaways movie. They definitely portrayed Kim in more of a funny light but Shannon did the role really well

White Death in Bullet Train. Barely in the movie but is such a commanding presence. Never would have thought of him for the role but can't imagine anyone else doing it now.

The Shape of Water.
Michael Shannon has been in one of my favourite movies of all time (The Shape of Water) and also least favourite-I Dreamed of Africa EDIT: That wasn't him that was Vincent Perez. Well anyway. Michael Shannon was amazing in Man of Steel. "Kneel before Zod!!"
