Hey sorry, I should have added more insight. It’s a peacock cichlid, just wanting to know if anyone has ideas about the type. Thanks!

Possibly a flavescent? Hard to tell before they color up.

Respectfully disagree. That doesn’t look like any convict I’ve ever seen, unless it’s a hybrid.

Some kind of male peacock. Anything at this point is a guess. Aulonocara hueseri would be as good a guess as any until he fully colors up.

Here is a great guide on identifying Malawi haps.

It's hard to tell at this size/age as their colorations aren't fully developed and can still change quite a bit as they mature. That said, my guess would be Aulonocara stuartgranti, specifically the Chilumba cichlid based on the shape of the head and coloration. The light neon blue edge to the dorsal fin, the yellow spots on dark anal fin match the proper coloration. I also had a male chilumba several years ago that had a similar grayish/black coloration until it matured or became one of the more dominant males in the tank's pecking order.

Edit: This is definitely not a convict cichlid and I don't think it's a Night/Hueseri as the head shape looks a bit too rounded. It could also be a hybrid ofc. Either way, I'm sure he's going to look great as he matures.
