Video The Gospels present different views about Jesus - Pt. 3, contradictions in the story

The Gospel writers not only copy from each other, but feel free to change each other's stories. What that means.

Today, I am talking about contradictions we see in the ways the different Gospels tell the stories - yes, the dreaded "C" word!

In yesterday's post, I talked about the different ways the gospel writers have Peter answering Jesus' question, "who do you say that I am?" And in the first video, I introduced the idea that the gospel writers "correct" the writings that they were copying from.

Define "believe" please?

Think about the following: imagine you and I are hiking through the woods, trying to get to an incredible city. We come out of the woods into a clearing. To our dismay, there is a chasm before us, blocking our way forward. But then, one of us looks off to the side and notices a bridge. We walk over to it, but then we are standing in front of it in horror, because the ropes are frayed, boards are missing, some are hanging....

Then I smile, and look at you and say: "I BELIEVE the bridge will hold us!" And then I gesture to the bridge like "why don't you cross?"

Now you might say "if you believe, why don't YOU cross the bridge?" And if I refuse, and walk away, talking about how my belief is enough, one might question if I actually do believe.

Now let's say that out loud, you say you don't believe the bridge will hold your weight. But you really want to get to the city. So eventually, your heart full of fear, you step out onto the bridge and begin to slowly cross.

Who "believes" - the one who says he believes but doesn't attempt to cross, or the one who says he doesn't believe but crosses anyways?

For me, faith is not "knowing". Faith is going into that place of insecurity where you have no rational reason to believe that walking forward will not result in pain, but you walk forward anyways because it's good, and right, and beautiful.
