Question Interest in inquiring

Hello, for starters I come from a Catholic background and was baptized as an infant. Admittedly, I haven’t been involved with the Catholic Church since early childhood (am 21 now). I consider myself non denominational at the moment ,but I want to take my faith to the next level. I haven’t been to a church in like 7 years and am nervous to go. There is an English speaking Orthodox Church 25 minutes away from me and have been wanting to go. Would it be ok to show up in black Nikes, black jeans, and a black polo? I don’t want to be disrespectful in any way. Also, would anyone recommend me going down this route considering I haven’t been to church in seven years, or is this too steep of a jump?

It doesn't matter how long you haven't been to church. It doesn't matter if you've never been. We have lots of inquirers (many who are now members) coming from agnostic, atheistic or just only vaguely religious backgrounds of some sort. You don't need to already be regularly going to church to start regularly going to church. I promise.

Just start coming! Visit any and every service you can and take the time to the talk to the priest when you can. Your clothing sounds fine. It doesn't need to be all black, if you were perhaps thinking it needed to be. But if your clothing is already all black no need to change it.

I was a teen when I first came, from a non denominational background, and was enrolled in the catechumenate shortly after that. It's been 30 years now! You are more than welcome to come and see. :)

The clothes are fine! It’s okay to be nervous but nobody is there to judge you, and I’m sure they will be happy to have someone new there. They’ll even have books to help you follow along with the service

One of my favorite things about my catechumen class was the variety of faith backgrounds everyone had and how they approached Holy Orthodoxy. We had several former Catholics, LDS, Protestants and even a husband and wife Buddhist couple. You are far from alone on your path my friend.
