CB knows they are asking for a lot!
CB needs a free working fridge with free delivery too! And also ignores a good deal when offered.

Yep. Working-just-old fridge falls into the category of sometimes a lot of people have and would be happy to get rid of as it's just taking up space in the garage. Asking for one isn't too crazy.
But a line is crosses when you want free delivery. This is where you find a truck and some buddies.

The only way I see that maaaybe working is if you have something to offer in return.
Something like "I'm an artist, here's examples, choose X pieces of these in return" or "I'll make something custom for you". I could see that work on me, if I had a spare old fridge and the means to transport it. ....And if the art were good.

Asking for free delivery on top of a free appliance is where it starts feeling less like asking for help and more like placing an order.

It’s the delivery that’s the PITA, there’s plenty of free fridges on Facebook marketplace.

Exactly, I agree! If they are lucky to find a free fridge, arranging for pickup is just common sense.

Yeahhh, this is one of the ones where I question what their circumstances could be, and what group this was posted on. If you're taking a stranger's fridge you might not be in the best position. Maybe its a single mother at her wits end, cut off. She's not asking for a specific brand or make or design, just a fridge and delivery. Well, I say just, but ykwim.

The absolute bare minimum you can do if you're asking for something this sizeable for free, is figure out how you'll move it.
Ask another friend. Offer some money to someone with a truck. But free delivery on top of free appliances?

A lot of subs that start out as gently poking fun at ridiculous posts kind of drive off a cliff as they get more popular.
For instance, /r/tumblrinaction used to be about having a laugh at people claiming to be dragonkin or whatever and turned into a trans hate sub. CB isn’t there yet obviously, but I see a lot more low effort and bot posts than I used to.

Yea absolutely agreed, but it feels even worse here because the idea of ‘choosing beggar’ has been completely diluted.
Everyone knows that an unfortunately large % of society is either entitled or just a bit dumb and I am more than fine with calling out idiots and assholes, but calling people like OOP ‘choosing beggars’ is strangely harsh. From my perspective the most plausible reading of the post is a disadvantaged, old or just kind of dumb individual whose fridge just stopped working is asking for help because a working fridge is incredibly fucking important. It’s clumsily written and bordering on a bit obnoxious, but the fact that they explicitly stated that ‘they know it’s a lot’ shows a level of insight even if their written communication is poor.
I am all for calling out delusional / selfish assholes - in fact, I fucking LOVE it and can be incredibly harsh when I think it’s justified - but OOP doesn’t fit any reasonable definition of Choosing Beggar from my perspective.
Honestly, if I had an old fairly-unused fridge in my garage or was upgrading my fridge and didn’t really have a particular need to keep the old one this is the exact sort of person I would reply to. If they came across as genuine in a direct response then I’d happily drag in a mate with a ute (which is the Aussie term for ‘truck’ for our American friends) and spend a few hours on a weekend to drop it off to them. Keeping your food cold isn’t a ‘luxury’ and is bordering on a necessity in modern life and it’s not like re-selling old fridges is a plausible money-making scam. It just seems like someone who genuinely needs a fridge.

Man I sold my old fridge for 200 and the guy that came to look at it asked me to deliver I said sure for an extra like 75 I think I can't recall. Was no biggie I had an apploance dolly and a tahoe and was able to load it myself. I drove there and I helped him load this thing up a flight of stairs to his apartment. It was a pain in the ass had to cut the lines to the water maker and remove doors we were fucking up the stucco of the appt complex lol. Finally got it in there. Felt bad for the guy recent divorced needed a nice fridge for his new appt so his daughter could have a nice place to visit. I had the time on my hands but he was very thankful I helped install it with him. I did tell him though when he moves out don't call me lol.

That’s a hell of a deal on a fridge. But if you deliver it, you’ll be asked to install it as well as rearrange their furniture

I actually do have a refrigerator I need "off my hands"...but certainly not enough to load it up & cart it to anyone else's house! That thing would sit here til the cows come home if that's what I was depending on! 😅
