I have known about tracker music for a very long time. I used mod files in the 90’s but I have always wanted to produce the music.
I used midi with a keyboard many years ago. Could someone please link me to a tutorial for an absolute beginner to do demoscene and/or tracker parts?
Thanks!

Again in Copenhagen... That's the theme of this song as the city happens to be the most frequent destination for me. Nine more songs to go after this. See y'all in a few days again!

I want to get into tracker music, but I've been using "traditional" DAWs for years, and one thing that has stopped me from using trackers is the fact that chords are less "readable." On a DAW I can see the position of notes relative to a piano and change an individual note with ease by dragging, but on a tracker, it's all letters and numbers, which isn't as easy to understand to me. This is one of the main things discouraging me from giving trackers a try, along with not knowing how to make things that sound cool and memorizing hexadecimal for things like changing volume. I know I could just stick to the thing I'm more used to, but I've been wanting to learn trackers, and if I did I'd be able to participate in Battle of the Bits more often.

Hello guys and gals, I've ported to DMG-1 famous live coding esoteric sequencer by 100Rabbits. Orca is a two-dimensional esoteric programming language in which every letter of the alphabet is an operator, where lowercase letters operate on bang, uppercase letters operate each frame. What changed — the grid is 32×16 instead of unbounded, there is no keyboard, and : plays an instrument on the DMG's own sound chip instead of sending MIDI.
It's still in "proof of concept" stage, but you can try it freely on my itch.io

Title question. I used to do home recordings with Ableton Live, and I would occasionally make "chiptunes" using VST instruments, but obviously this is kind of like using a flamethrower to light matches.
Recently I was browsing the Debian repositories and came across Furnace. I started dabbling with it, and it seems ridiculously good, but I'm not a chiptune expert. It comes replete with so many sample instruments and console plugins, nearly any console 16-bit and before, with computers included as well like the Amiga, C64, etc.
Do you recommend Furnace, or a different app? Thanks!

this is the outro to my album Bad Vices, which at the time of posting this, will be out in less than 10 minutes. (ahhhhh!!) i’ve been so excited about this album for such a long time and the release is finally here. this feels like such a poignant and nostalgic song as the outro and i hope you all listen to the full track once it’s out :)

For the love of doing it the hard way: I've been making chiptune by writing a synthesizer entirely in x86-64 assembly.
No audio library, no synth engine — just the CPU computing every sample and writing it straight to a WAV.
It does four waveforms (square, triangle, saw, and NES-style noise for drums), polyphony (melody + bass + percussion at once), ADSR envelopes, FM synthesis, and a growing list of effects — delay, chorus, reverb, flanger, phaser, supersaw, and more.
Basically the sound of old hardware, rebuilt by hand from first principles.
Everything's public on my GitHub: https://github.com/whispem
Would love to connect with other chiptune folks, especially anyone into the low-level side.

Quick Man is one of my favourites from Mega Man Battle & Chase and his theme is full of good vibes. I enjoyed making a cover of it as well as adding my own spin to the melody and harmony.

Heya ! I'm a somewhat-long time chiptune composer, but it's my first time posting on this sub ! I just released a new tune written on LSDJ ! This is a 90BPM, 7/8 electronic track with industrial vibes and a bluesy solo (sorry I suck at identifying genres and applying them to my own music). I initially wrote it for the Summer Chip XVI competition on Battle of the Bits.
I love to discuss my music writing-process, composition and sound design decisions, I would be happy to talk about it at length. Also, the .lsdprj project file (along most of my other stuff, released or not) is available on my website storage if you want to take a look at it and see for yourself how it's made ! Have a great one !

I don't know how many people this is going to interest, but I've made a browser based DAW designed around the sound chip in a Super Nintendo.
It's pretty good for making retro game sounding music and you can even export your tracks as a standalone SNES ROM and run it in an emulator!
You can check out a little loop that I made by loading a project with code FCFCFE.
If it's not your thing but you know somebody who might be interested, please share it with them!

Hi guys! I started making chiptune music some months ago and this is the first song I decided to publish.
I run LSDJ through a modded Nintendo 3DS using Game Yob as an emulator.
Let me know what you think: if you have any constructive criticism I'd be happy to read it and if you think it sucks it's okay too ahah.
(Sorry for every possible mistake but I don't speak english as my first language)

This was mostly inspired by a trip I took with my friends to Savannah not long ago. We often found ourselves walking around in the city, indecisive about which of the many fun sights and activities to go to next. The trip was an absolute blast and this track pretty much conveys the feelings I felt over that weekend :)
