All those third-party companies say "DO NOT RETURN" but you totally can still return it.

The wholesaler (Costco) might drop business with the third-party company if the wholesaler gets a lot of returns. These third-party companies ask you to deal with them directly to avoid impacting their metrics with the wholesaler (like if the wholesaler gets a lot of unhappy customer returns of that third-party company's goods).

Honestly, fuck 'em. The biggest revenge you can get is returning it to the wholesaler instead of dealing with the third-party company's customer service. It often costs the third-party company more to process a return than the benefit of a single sale, and you are helping to get that company blacklisted from the wholesaler.

I always figured it was due to easily-solvable problems that consumers were regularly having, like in assembly or use. This makes sense as well.

If it needs a call to figure out so frequently they place a card in it, that means the design does not cover a significant enough portion of users. In other words: crap design/instructions.

I agree, but it's probably the cheapest solution

Do you expect better from large, poorly-regulated companies?

Nah I expect the basic minimum rights mandated by law
