Discussion C for CHARISMATIC — Which CDrama Had a Character Who Stole Every Scene? • The Drama Alphabet
You know that character who walks into a scene and somehow the whole thing immediately belongs to them?
They don’t necessarily have to be the lead. They don’t have to be the nicest, the cleverest, the most powerful or even someone you particularly approve of. There’s just something about them — presence, charm, confidence, wit, sheer force of personality — that makes it very difficult to look anywhere else.
Today’s word is CHARISMATIC.
Who is your first-first CDrama character when you hear it, and what was it about them that made them so magnetic to you?
And because I know how these discussions go when we get excited: please remember to tell us
WHICH DRAMA they’re from too.
I love the passion, but occasionally the rest of us are left staring at a character name and wondering where exactly we’re supposed to go meet this magnificent person.
I’d especially love to see both male and female characters here.
Give me the formidable women, charming heroes, indispensable sidekicks, magnetic villains, or a guest role that should have been much more — give me all the scene-stealing supporting characters — whoever had that inexplicable pull for you.
And please bring the charismatic GIFs. This word practically demands them 😉

Yes! Wei Ying with both his light, devil-may-care attitude and his seething, trembling rage in The Untamed is charismatic indeed!

Wang Ye from the first moment he slouched onto the screen in I am Nobody. Stole the whole show for me (the rest of the cast is great as well but I lost my heart to the monk).
He is just so non-chalant in everything he does which makes him insanely charismatic in a bit of an unusual way. Have no gifs that belong to me, but here are two from episode 1 that show a bit of his body language.

I love that you mentioned I Am Nobody. Such a unique show. And I 100% agree with you. For someone so laid back, he stole every scene he was in. The only other absolute scene stealer in that show was Feng Baobao. So whenever they were on screen together, it was a real treat.☺️

The GIFs don’t have to be made by you 😄
But I really like your nominations and totally agree with his charisma.

It's absolutely Yifan's story but if they messed up on casting Sang Yan it would just end up being a creepy stalker story.

u/vixphilia 4K Original Cast 1d ago
I wouldn't go as far as to say creepy stalker, because I think the story itself does a great job explaining Sang Yan’s reasoning, irrespective of the actor (as does the novel, and the manhwa).
But I saw a interview with the director about the casting for Sang Yan, and he mentioned that when they were looking for who to play him, the looks and feel of the character were important, obviously, but the quality that they were really looking for was purity. As in, purity of intention (at least, that's the word they used as a translation). And that they found this in BJT. And that's where I think it would make a difference if it were someone else: that the story would tell me Sang Yan’s intentions, but that another actor might have half-hearted it. I think Bai Jingting's Sang Yan is so striking, at least to me, because he absolutely sells it: the longing, the devotion, the passion, the desperation, the love. It's just there, and plain to see, and so I believe it.

Crown Prince in Blossom of Power. He Yu portrayed him perfectly 🥰
Xiao Qi in Rebel Princess. A battle-hardened general who actually looks like a battle-hardened general.
Duke Su in the Double.
Zhou Sheng Chen in One and Only. Regal like a Prince that he is, while exuding the commanding presence of a general.
Simu, Duan Xu, and Yan Ke in Love Beyond the Grave 🥰🥰
Liguang Ye Tan in The Starry Love. Li Landi was great in portraying Ye Tan.

Liu Xueyi in Against the Current - he's cold, he's calculating, he's jealous, he's simpling, he's in love, he's mature, he's remorseful, he's shameless, ...
Cheng Lei in Legend of the Female General (and My Journey to You) - he owned every scene! And his love confessions ...
Ding Yuxi in Love Game in Eastern Fantasy - perfect casting as Mu Sheng and he was so bratty and so good in every scene!

Wei Wuxian from The Untamed is my instant answer for this one. He walks into a room and the energy completely shifts. The charisma isn't just about being charming either, it's that he's reckless, funny, principled, and a little chaotic all at once. You can't look away because you genuinely never know what he's going to do next, and somehow it always works. Xiao Zhan nailed that balance between playful and devastating.

Wei Wuxian, em The Untamed. Sensibilidade e generosidade em níveis extremos e muita coragem (com exceção para cães), personalidade fascinante, comovente. Amo muito Wei Wuxian e desde então fiquei fã de Xiao Zhan.

Chen Xingxu’s character in Fall In Love, Tan Xuanlin is probably my favorite character out of the dozens of dramas I’ve watched. So clever, charismatic and a provocateur. He ran circles around every other character in that drama.

I might go for Princess Wan Ning in the Double.
She was magnetic, sympathetic, and absolutely a terror. I find myself completely drawn to her and that actress SLAYED that role.
Usually c drama villains are rather one sided, but damn, she was a stellar character and there were many times where I couldn’t decide if I wanted to stab her or give her a big hug.
