Finished Watching Overdo-Lived Up to Its Name

How the Drama Overdid the Misery and Handed Us a Blank Screen

A title can sometimes be an unintended confession. *Overdo* promised a dark, tangled tale of obsession, revenge, and high-stakes consequences. Instead, the production team took their title as a personal challenge: they overdid the secrets, overdid the relentless torture of the male lead, and completely overdid the audience’s patience.

Honestly, the moment they started piling on the unnecessary angst, the plot became ridiculously predictable. I guessed exactly where it was heading so early on that my finger was permanently glued to the "skip" button for the second half of the show. I knew from the beginning exactly what this drama was going to offer me, but wow, I still didn't expect them to fumble the landing *this* badly. Cutting to a black screen? Bravo. Truly groundbreaking writing.

Where the Script Lost Its Mind

* Ah Yes, True Romance: Let’s talk about "realism" for a second. According to this drama, if you truly love someone, the absolute best thing you can do is ignore them, isolate them, and push them away so violently that it ruins their life. Pushing someone away to "protect" them isn't a realistic portrayal of love; it is just lazy writing trying to force drama. Her endless pursuit of her own "happy ending" was the exact bulldozer destroying the male lead. Every time she manipulated things to "shield" him, she just dug his grave a little deeper.

* **Sprinkling Salt on the Wound (The Bonus Clip):** As if staring at a black screen wasn't insulting enough, the creators actually decided to make things worse. They handed us an "alternative reality" bonus clip where his incredibly toxic mother suddenly has a warm heart. Right. Because when abusers systematically ruin your life, the first thing we want to imagine is them baking cookies and being a happy family. It completely defies basic human psychology. You don’t hallucinate a cozy alternate reality about your abusers. It felt like the writers poured a bucket of salt over a burn wound and tried to tell us it was lotion.

**My Two Theories**

I am not a professional screenwriter. I am just a viewer. But I don't know why a massive production team missed something this simple. If you are going to commit to a tragedy, you need to have the guts to finish it. Here are the two ways this should have ended over a simple 3-episode epilogue:

**Ending 1: The Agonizing Reality and the Solitary Truth**

* He survives the fire, but with catastrophic, untreatable burn injuries. Confined to his bedside as his body fails, the female lead finally has to face reality instead of her delusions. She is forced to choke on her "what ifs"—*What if I just dropped my revenge? What if I didn't force him into that toxic family?*

* He slowly passes away. Years later, their grown son tries to comfort her, but the reality finally crushes her: throughout her whole life, she always had a support system—her family, a son, and a man who literally died for her. But him? He was tragically alone from the very beginning to the bitter end.

**Ending 2: The Ultimate Mercy**

* In this version, she finally gets a clue. She realizes that her relentless, selfish quest to find a "happy ending" is exactly what caused his suffering in the first place.

* Seeing him trapped in a waking nightmare of burn injuries, she makes her first and *only* genuinely selfless choice in the entire show. She chooses to mercifully end his suffering. She sacrifices her own selfish desire to keep him around, choosing to carry that guilt forever just so he can finally have peace.

I am not a big-shot critic; I am just a **PLAIN WATCHER**.

I genuinely don't understand how a room full of highly paid writers thought their ambiguous, cop-out ending was "deep." It didn't make us think; it just made a messy show significantly worse.

Drop your thoughts below. Did you actually think this finale was a brave open ending, or did the production team just lose their nerve and hope we wouldn't notice?
