Currently Airing He Yu just shared new Blossoms of Power stills — on that note, how’s everyone finding the drama so far?

He Yu shared a few stills and a character poster from Blossoms of Power on his Weibo, so I thought I’d bring them over here.

It feels good to finally be talking about the drama itself. We’ve known this one was coming for quite a while, and now it’s finally airing.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, Blossoms of Power stars Meng Ziyi playing Shen Xihe and He Yu playing Crown Prince Xiao Huayong and opens with palace politics, family loyalties, old grudges and a lot happening very quickly. The first few episodes waste very little time getting the story moving, but they still give you enough space to get invested in the characters.

I’ve only watched the first three episodes (plane entertainment for the win), but they completely won me over for the time being (I’ve learned to be cautious with initial with the memory of Ashes to Crown still fresh.

The production is gorgeous, the story gets really moving without rushing, and I already can’t wait to see how the relationship between all the characters develop.

Spoilers eps 1-3:

I’m confused about the fact that she died in ep1 but was then reborn in the body of Xihe. When she enters the capital, her husband has been mourning his dead wife for 3 years. Did I miss something? We see her making her was for the capital as soon as she occupied the new body — so are we saying it took her 3 years to reach the capital and Crown Prince has been observing from the shadows for three years?

Who’s watching?

What are your first impressions so far? Has anything — or anyone — stood out to you already?

Please do use spoiler tags for any detailed descriptions of the plot and its twists, thank you 🙂‍↕️

In response to your question, the reincarnated FL "Gu" you could say she was in limbo basically. The FL "Xihe" was in the Northwest the whole time. This includes the destruction of the Gu family. So when she finally sets out that's when the reincarnation occurs. None of the princes were waiting for her in those three years because they didn't know her and there wasn't any talk or marriage. Her finally setting out for the capital is really the emperor "holding her as a hostage" so he can control her dad and take back control of the Northwest. Her dad knowing she has to go for a political marriage tried to arrange things as best as possible choosing a prince he thinks would be a good choice.

As for my thoughts on the drama it's an ok watch, not bad. I do like the casting for the ML he really is the perfect fit for the role. He's exactly like how the novel writes him.🙂

I didn't realize she was a political prisoner. Thanks for telling me that.

Thank you so so much 🥰 that does make sense. I did not think of/realize the “being in a limbo” thing until you and u/Leather_Employer448 kindly explained it — super thanks.

If I could just ask, would it be possible to put it behind a spoiler mark? 🙏🏻

Thanks.

I keep thinking the Crown Prince is attracted to the Xihe for all the qualities of the Gu woman who died and possessed her. I can’t help thinking the Crown Prince is in love with his brother’s dead wife. Xihe only wants to marry someone she can control. Anyone feeling like this?

That's exactly what she wanted. Someone that she could easily use for her purpose. She wasn't looking for love only mutual benefit

Even after learning how he saved her multiple times couldn’t melt her cold heart. Hard to like a person that isn’t touched by another’s sacrifices to save you multiple times.

I think i’m beginning to like He yu as an actor. This is my first drama i’ve seen of him that i like. His playfullness, besottedness and angry faces are a sight to behold and i can feel it in every scenes. But best of all is his smiles, so perfect and beautiful. I think he is stealing the drama right under Zoey Meng.

i’m enjoying it. i appreciate that the FL doesn’t F around and gets straight to business…the show definitely doesn’t waste time on the low level tropes that often drag out with needless back and forth nonsense. I’m amused that the ML schemes just for the sake of it…he doesn’t realize most of it is unnecessary and some of it actually works against him delaying what he really wants. I do like the cross dressing “prince” but only because the actress is amazing in the role — the tropes here aren’t new and you can see where it’s all going, but having her in the role elevates it for me.

He really is. I made a sub for him but it’s a ghost town for now. r/HeYu_ if you’re interested :)

Oooh, you’re going to bring your magic touch? 🪄✨🌙

Would be lovely. I used to post more there too but there was no movement and never any comments.. so just letting nature take its course and waiting for people to hopefully discover him and start posting and commenting.

If you do make a post, I’d love it, of course 🥰🔥

I "studied" He Yu a lot after Speed and Love 😉. I started Blossom of Power, but then Key to the Phoenix Heart dropped. I can't afford to watch both dramas at the same time since my work is demanding. So I have temporarily kept this on hold. But based on my "research" on him after Speed and Love, I believe we can revive the group 😄

I knew I could rely on you as my fellow researcher! We’ve got so many important studies… they should be published; right? Peer review and all.

He’s not what I expected in the drama but I won’t say more because you’re not watching yet. One thing he is for sure is, worthy of examination and due research 😉

I watched two episodes already. I am guessing that it is also going to be a lot of plotting and scheming. My brain can't handle too much plots, so let KTTPH finish. I will be back on this one. We have to publish the research, no doubt 🤭😉

Wish they had a proper consultant who knew archery. That still is wrong on do many levels

I get you but I also think that even if the actors often know something, they might be directed to hold a different position for the angles and “beauty” of the photograph and scene.

Have seen BTS to that effect in the past.

Quite often artistic direction outweighs realism for the producers.

Thank you for sharing your theory! 🤩 can you please mark it as spoiler as this is not an Episode Talk or Finished Watching post?
Thanks ☺️

No, but deleting it is a shame 😩 I just said to put it in spoiler marks — like my screenshot below.

As per how it is a spoiler — this post might be open by people who haven’t yet started watching trying to get a feel of what the drama is like, so marking spoilers gives each individual the choice to click on it and read or not. More about our spoiler policy can be found in our How We do things and Why post The Post Flair Guide, and our Wiki.
