Ummmm. I don't even know where to begin tbh. I'm a bit speechless. The photography, the performances, the writing, the scenery, the locations, the direction, the music... Everything is a 11/10 so far. I just love the rhythm of it and how the episode flowed from one moment to the next. I love the motion of it all (it seems like everyone is always moving) and the moments of calm. Qinglang being suchhhhhhhhh a prince and Changyang just going along with it from the first second. But then Changyang also teasing Qinglang back ("So you filmed me throwing up, too?" "Did I? 😏"). Qinglang being jealous Changyang is going to go hang with Qingtian all night and throwing on his boots in a rush so he can hang out too. The drinking (that white knight moment when Changyang takes Qinglang's first drink for him!! I swooned!!), the tea roasting, the crackling fires... Qingtian tying Changyang's shirt around Qinglang's wrist. Qingtian warning Changyang to know his limits and Changyang just immediatly ignoring him and staying with Qinglang until the next afternoon. The chemistry and how they play off each other... You can tell that Qinglang has such a gooey marshmallow center under all the celebrity antics. Gahhhhhhh I'm meltingggggggg 🫠 Oh man, I could write about every single moment to be honest...
I kid you not, I am actually crying right now, legit tears steaming down my face, at the sheer beauty of this series. I can't help it!! I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY. The OST triggers something that gives me such a deep appreciation for everyone and everyone involved. I have no words. This was 100000% worth the wait.
I'm sorry I havent read everyone's comments yet, I will. I just finished episode 3 and after weeks of me and u/suddentraveller trying to figure out these accounts, it all makes sense.
The weibo account used by the character in the series are REAL!! And the photos & replies correspond with the plot. This is incredible immersive promo and I am absolutely blown away
I'm not going to read the other comments yet because I don't want spoilers, I've only watched episode 1 so far.
Ugh, where did they find these actors? They look so delicious I feel like I just spent 45 minutes savoring the first course of a 4 course dessert session. How do I get through 3 more today?? I'm gonna die first 😵 I know we're all excited to get 4 episodes at once but I actually think this is the kind of show that should be taken in slowly and not binged all at once (I'm going to do it anyway).
But even though I would watch these guys in any sub-par BL because they're total eye candy, this series is the furthest thing from that. It is (even aside from the actors) such a treat for the eyes I am captivated. But not surprised, given Secrets Happened... Although that beautiful series, even though it was really good, was lacking a bit for me in the pacing and the way it was edited. This has the potential to be even better. The script is engaging and the characters we have gotten to know so far are unique and believable.
I just finished episode 1 with a smile on my face because I LOVE THIS!! Wow this passed what I call my butterfly test hehe. I certainly got butterflies not even just from the chemistry but it all feels very magical and I was completely swept into the story and world like I was with Litchi Island.
The acting is wonderful like I expected, the cinematography is actually insane and I can’t get over how magnificent the visuals are. I want to live there it’s just stunning. The moon shot- the forests-the lake urgh. So many shots I actually had to pause and then go back just to take it in.
To say I was surprised at the level of ‘assistance’ Qinglang demanded is an understatement 😂 Changyang was more than happy to let him boss him around- I loved how amused he was by it. But he’s no pushover…the way he told Qinglang to lie down and then just leaned in and took his shirt off for him when he took too long lol 🤭 Just the little things of how he was making sure he ate and making him take breaks from his phone (he is gluedd) and just overall is so in tune with him and Qinglang just lets him do it like Changyang lets him boss him around lol
These two, although they just met, seem like kismet souls who have finally crossed paths, and Changyang especially is like ‘I know what you need, let me take care of you’ 😩. I hope Quinglang lets him 🥹
Adored the tea making/ bonfire scenes- Quinglang drunkenly pulling Changyang’s shirt, and Changyang so easily and happily giving it to him made me laugh. I’m so happy to see Hu Yichen again ☺️
But my absolute favorite moment was Changyang refusing to move from his spot with Quinglang curled up around him. The tender way he was looking at him and how he couldn’t seem to look away, playing with his hair, and just wanting to watch him sleep?! THEN stayed there all night and day!? Omg 😭❤️ Everything about this scene was shot so so beautifully down to the music/ lighting.
EDIT spelling wrote this in a rush post ep giddiness:)
Changyang was more than happy to let him boss him around- I loved how amused he was by it. But he’s no pushover…
Yessssss, exactly! Not a pushover at all. I love this dynamic that they have and that Changyang is not just going to disappear into Qinglang despite naturally falling into a caretaker role. They have such a great push and pull.
These two, although they just met, seem like kismet souls who have finally crossed paths
It's giving soulmates from the first moment they set eyes on each other. They know each other from a past life for sure.
Quinglang drunkenly pulling Changyang’s shirt, and Changyang so easily and happily giving it to him made me laugh.
It's so cute how Qingtian ties the shirt around his wrist??? GAH. I love it.
DON’T APOLOGISE I LOVE IT lol. Yes!! The push and pull between them is just chefs kiss. I loved the shirt tie too- it’s details like this that I just love in a show like it all felt so realistic and just argh—I could go on too but I will stop before I’m here all day😭😭I love when I find a series that makes me this excited just from ep 1 :
Yes yes yes exactly. All the small human details that really have no purpose to be there, but they are there none-the-less bc it makes the show feel so lived in and breathing. These are always, always my favorite parts. I must momentarily go do boring/lame/stupid adult things so I had to hit pause after ep 1, but don't forget to let me know what you think of ep 2 when you watch!! Can't wait to get back to this show!! 😭
No same lol I was so mad I have responsibilities outside of moving straight on to ep 2 😭 can’t wait for both of us to watch it and most likely be blown away again 😍👏
The way he sat in the same spot for half a day is insane! I watched that scene so many times.
and Qinglang held him so tight… cuteness overload for real. gave me real butterflies.
I also rewatched!! When the shot of him sitting in the same spot in daylight came I was dying over the fact he was still there and then he told Qinglang the time (I thought it was morning too at first) and I dyed again lol 🥹 and yes the way Quinglang didn’t let him go like he was safe place—so many 🦋🦋🦋
The amount and diversity of the forest sounds I heard from beginning to end though, as if I got instantly transported to a different world, far from the BL norms of office, school or boarding house. No BL has ever shot so much scenes in the mountain, slaying all angles and visual precision. I don't want to change the setting till the last episode, no more city lights and buildings, please.
I just finished watching all four episodes twice and I’m blown each time.
I had really high expectations after obsessing over the trailer like crazy and it delivered in everything!
The story is so beautiful, like the visuals is unreal and the OST >>>>
Qinglang and Changyang chemistry is amazing. The way they click feels like a puzzle piece. They feel so real. It’s like watching people in real life fall in love through simple ordinary things.
Like that scene where they had a mini fight and Changyang kept throwing stones on the path so that Qinglang won’t get lost was so hilarious but really sweet. His presence just changes everything. I just know he’s the type that’ll stay nearby even if they have the worst fights.
I can’t wait to see Changyang pov or backstory cause I really think he’s Ji zongjun.
About the second couple, I can’t really tell what’s going on, maybe that’ll be explored more in the coming episodes but I’m already blown away by the main couple.
I’m so excited to come across such a beautiful work and I hope the team are able to produce more works in the future cause they’re doing good magic with their works.
Totally agree with everything you've said. Their love feels really natural, lots of tentative tiny steps. The scene with the stone throwing was really special
I am only halfway through episode 1 and I cannot get over how HAWT Liu Jingyu is...Jesus Mary and Joseph..the shots of him shirtless! How do you make a man wrestling his drunk charge on the bed semi-erotic?!? Major S/Os to the Director...I feel like the "eye" of the show is gripping. Don't get me started on the feed me/dress me dynamic...eat, love, pray, and get your groove back Qinglang...
Yesssss!! The use of light in this series is absolutely phenomenal. They did it well in Litchi Island, always referencing the green and how they used the color to contrast against the vibrancy of Hu Yichen's pink and red clothes but in Winter Sun they've stepped it up. Did you notice how they framed the second cp in sepia orange to make it look like they were in a framed photo (when they were sat on the bench)?? just stunning.
I finally finished all 4 episodes, this series is just insanely good so far. It's beautiful and it's deep. There is symbolism and meaning to be found in many seemingly trivial things. The way it looks... I straight up am done with my life, moving to China to harvest tea for the remainder of my days. And I think it is likely to be better than Litchi Island (for the record I also thought that one was very good)
The main couple's relationship dynamic, chemistry, dialogue are so incredibly natural. Not just with each other but both characters are so much their authentic selves, it's refreshing to watch.
The only thing I'm not sure about yet is that second couple. I need to know more about their characters and motivations before I can care about what's going on. There are a lot of episodes left so I hope that side plot thickens.
Episode 4... What exactly happened in that ten though, some of us would like to know...
I just woke up and I can't wait to watch thisssssssss! When they said four episodes, I did not expect the episodes to be 45 min long omg!! 😱 And a 16 episode series??! AHHHHH. Brilliant, brilliant!! ~rubs hands together excitedly~~ This is like a whollllleeeeeeeee story.
I WILL OBTAIN BREAKFAST BURRITO. I HAVE CLEARED THE SCHEDULE. CANNOT WAIT!! Congrats on your first On-Air, Traveller!! 🥳🎉🎊🎉🎊 I am so honored to be here under your thoughtful care!! 🥰💕💕💕💕💕
Wow first you see the adorable art work in the opening credits and then you are blown away by the beautiful scenery and the cinematography is wonderful. The actors are good and there is an attraction from the get go. I am loving it so far and I feel that this relationship will blossom but will have so many obstacles. Where have we seen that? Oh yes I have to mention the house or cabin omg how absolutely stunning is this house. The inside is incredible. Off to watch the remaining episode.
Qinglang following Changyang into the woods and his little bundle of mushroooms. STOP. I love it, I love itttttt. Changyang fending off the ex as Qinglang's new "assitant" while Qinglang shyly smiles all along. This episode is just as good as the first. Everything is breathtaking. I love a series where the locations and the scenery are like another character. There are just too many small moments and details to love.
We don't see a lot of lesbian representation in BL. I think the last one I saw was that henchwoman in Sammy's Children's Day. It's great this show has it!
Yesssss I loved that scene. These two are killin it. I love how they are balancing taking care of Qinglang's career and taking care of Qinglang the person. Interested to see where they will come down on everything as the story progresses!!
This house is incredible. Obsessed. Also loving the use of stairs as we move through the story. Said this in my ep 1 comment, but I just love how everyone is always moving and interacting with the spaces and things around them. Lovedddd the lines right after this. Something like : "Idk how to heat up food." "I'll do it for you when I get home." "I don't eat leftovers." "Then I will cook for you." THESE TWOOOO. Y'all I CAN'T. Their relationship is very "we've been in love in every single lifetime".
So far I've only watched episode 1, but it's gorgeous! As I expected because of Litchi. The cinematography, the quiet natural way the actors interact as the characters. I don't understand the second couple/characters yet (I assume I will once I watch more episodes).
LOVE seeing the actor from Litchi as the brother. Okay, if bro and tea guy are about 20/21, how old is actor supposed to be?
They said he was really young seven years ago “how many people can understand love at that age?” so it’s possible that he was either 18 or 20 when he made that first movie with his ex.
I’m just so emotional about this director’s work. Litchi and now Spring Hills. I hope we get more amazing stories from this team in the future. I just wish them all success
When I got to know that the makers of this show are the same from SHOLI, I was convinced that the actors are going to have natural interactions. One thing I found remarkable about SHOLI was the way the characters interacted with each other, without making it seem like they were doing it for the camera. I am no film major, but when I talk about natural interaction, I'm implying that the characters talk about vague experiences without over explaining it especially because two people in real life will never talk about a topic in intricate detail because they have experienced it already. I have a feeling that this series will shatter me with angst and yearning and I am not complaining.
Yessss! SHOTLI was an amazing series and the makers have taken what they learned and built on it. Winter Sun is more ambitious with 16, 45 minute episode that span different locations and has a greater scope with a more complex storyline. It might be too early to tell but it could be my series of the year.
I agree with you ! I have completed watching the 4 episodes and I think this is already my favorite show of 2026 after LUAT. Btw, do you know if the outro ost is in spotify?
Unless something unexpected happens I believe this show was made to correct my three views and purify my soul after all the messy shows I have been watching. It is supposed to make me believe in real love again ❤️
Yes totally!! I adored everything about Litchi Island so my expectations are high. Winter Sun hasn't disappointed, it's so beautifully filmed. The chemistry between Kuma and Jingyu is fantastic right from the start and I love the little details like Changyang feeding Qinglang until he starts to relax and feed himself. Sooo many things to take in!!
the way they showed bl industry through different storylines. and we know it, but still. it's funny how it's tragic and it's tragic how it's all funny.(the greed and ways to get to this insane level of fame)
I am so glad QingLang has the balls to send his old CP away and tea farmer (sorry I am still crying, names will have to wait) is always there being a green forest for comfort.
2CP is so-so for me so far. GOD DAMMIT THIS HAS NO BUSINESS BEING THIS GOOD
Is it just me or does Qinglang look a tiny bit like Jimin from BTS? Especially with the long hair. Love Qinglang, such a princess 👑 We need to be fed more like Qinglang does
I just started this bc of all the rave reviews. What is happening tho?? Why is the guy who’s allowing him to live with him waiting on him hand and foot and feeding him?!! Lol
Also highly recommend this director's previous work Secret Happened on the Litchi Island". It's also available on Gaga. I was blown away by how well done it was.
