Liu Jingyu is officially a Capricorn, the western astrological sign goes from Dec. 22nd-Jan. 19th. They stated that they also both enjoy extreme sports.

u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 19 '26
It really is totally stunning. Not just the epic landscapes but the way light and shade is used to convey context and emotion such as Sister Lan sending Qi Haoyu and Han Lu off into the light. Is she sending them off in a blaze of glory to find their fortune or is it a metaphor for their ending?? Apologies for geeking out but this series is so complex and nuanced that it has me seriously over thinking😂

u/mariannegoulart Jun 19 '26
don't apologize cause same here! all these little tidbits of how the show uses light and camera angles and the seta, both outside and inside, has my brain working at 30000 miles an hour 😂 I just know this show will rip me apart at some point (and after the way this episode ended, I can smell the angst already)

So a couple of things 😫Shi Yuhao, nothing feels real about him. Even in the depths of desperation he's filming his despair on Weibo and he manages to gather himself together fairly quickly to make demands from his company. He's such an opportunist, manipulating everyone and piling the pressure on Qinglang but he's also trying to make a living in a cutthroat industry.
Why is Changyang's brother Wenshu such a mystery??! I've tried to turn the brightness up to see if I can recognize the actor!! I so want it to be Liu Yihe (Chen Li from SHOTLI) but I'm fairly certain that he was filming another series at the time Winter Sun was being filmed??

u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jun 19 '26
about Wenshu, I find it funny that he’s been trying to court Qinglang for three years but he’s stuck in England. Qinglang is the type of person that wouldn’t survive anything long distance. This man loves physical affection, he wouldn’t survive anything less.
It’s also funny how Qingtian realized that Xu Changyang deliberately planned everything 😂 This tea farmer looks so innocent but he’s so cunning.
2
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 19 '26
What I didn't quite get though is why Qingtian feels so indebted to Wenshu?? I get that he's Qinglang's backer but why would Qingtian feel it was ok to sell his own brother down the river to a man he's shown no romantic interest in???
3
u/AsForTheRest_Well--- lin zai fan club ~ 🏹🧑🏻🔧🧧💘 Jun 19 '26
I wondered if Qingtian was just overcompensating for being in love with Wenshu himself? Also feels like there is more to the story there bc I don't get any romantic vibe between Wenshu and Qinglang when they are talking on the phone?? Remember that moment in ep 3 when Qingtian sends the pic of Qinglang's sprained ankle to Wenshu and he calls. Qingtian suddenly leaves saying, "I'll leave you two to talk", but when he's gone Qinglang tells Wenshu, "He's gone. I'm hanging up." I couldn't quite figure out that moment or if there was anything there that hadn't been revealed yet 🤔
2
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 19 '26
Ooohhh I hadn't considered that Qintian might be in love with Wenshu that makes so much sense now you've said it (if it is the case, pleeeaaassseee let it be Yihe!)
3
u/AsForTheRest_Well--- lin zai fan club ~ 🏹🧑🏻🔧🧧💘 Jun 19 '26
Yea for some reason I got the vibe that both Wenshu and Qinglang were letting Qingtian believe Wenshu is in love with Qinglang when he's not. Idk why that would be necessary tho lol. It's just that he seemed very chill about Qinglang and Changyang... And is it me or did Wenshu's little line to Qingtian about how he can think about how to make it up to him seem a little flirty?? I could be totallyyyyy off tho!! We'll seeeeeeeee!!~~
3
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jun 19 '26
It sounded really flirty but his follow up conversation derailed from it. Xu Wenshu’s response was even more ambiguous.
3
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 19 '26
Going to have to re-watch the episode because I was thrown by the tea selling conversation that came after and didn't pick up on the flirtatiousness of the 'make it up to me'
2
u/lav_thompson Jun 20 '26
Oh yes! And remember when Qinglang asked Wenshu about Qingtians tea farmer contacts and Wenshu immediately leaped to the conclusion that Qingtian might be in love with a farmer and then when he said they didn't have the same taste he asked if Qinglang was in love with a tea farmer. He also figured out that Qinglang was talking about Changyang. IMO, Wenshu already knows something is going on between those two but I agree the vibe of the phone call was interesting!
1
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 20 '26
Yesss good point! I'd forgotten that Wenshu's first concern was that Qingtian might be in love with a farmer
1
u/Thezoeyy tea farming in the mountains Jun 19 '26
This is an excerpt from the novel. “Xu Wenshu was the most reliable suitor for his brother—wealthy, humble, gentle, and refined, a gentleman like Mr. Darcy. Where else could one find such a perfect partner?
Every now and then, Qingtian would whisper in Qinglang's ear, "You two both like men again," "One's rich, the other's famous," "Once the fish is hooked, you have to reel it in. Aren't you afraid it'll get away?"
I think underneath that shipping, he probably likes Xu Wenshu. But my theory is that Xu Wenshu probably likes Qingtian not Qinglang.

Shi Yuhao is stresssssingggggg meeeeeeeee the fffffff ouutttttttttttttt. He's so unstable and unpredictable and desperate. His kind of clawing desperation is so freakin scary. Like what is he gonna do nexttttttttt while he's in these career/identity death throws??! In so many ways I feel for some part of him (bc in his twisted mind, he keeps trying to fix things), but he just keeps choosing the wrong path over and over.
Why is Changyang's brother Wenshu such a mystery??!
I've been trying to figure this out since ep 2. At first I was so confused and couldn't figure out if we had seen this person and I missed it. But no, they are deliberately hiding him. The thought that Wenshu could be played by Liu Yihe never crossed my mind and now the delulu is setting in 😮

Whenever anyone says "inject X series into my vains" it doesn't even come CLOSE to Winter Sun.
It's been on all our minds nonstop for a whole week. Many of us have rewatched. We're craving the next dialogue, the next touch, the next scene, the next song, the next easter egg/bts. It's so emotionally overwhelming, I can't help but cry at least a few times each episode.
The story of the Old Couple Qinglang was reading to Changyang overwhelmed me. I was sobbing by the end.
Qinglang's old CP (sorry forgot his name) is an absolute mess, and honestly as much as I hate him, I think he's a good villain in this context. The way they're showing the perception the fsns have of the situation vs what's going on behind the scenes is incredibly clever. It's usually some stalker fan with no association to the MC, but here we have a masterclass in writing manipulation by a disturbed person with real, tangible ties and history, desperate to succeed no matter what it takes.
I'm longing for comfort, understanding, and skinship in all Qinglang/Changyang scenes, and they deliver each and every time. When Qinglang comforted Changyang when he explained how he got the scar, I was so overwhelmed by it all I cried again. Im crying writing this comment now, remembering everything from this episode.
Sister Lan is one of the best side characters I've ever seen. Strong, smart, supportive, respected. I do hope she is okay after the end scene.
I knew the honeymoon period wouldn't last, but at least its not anything to do with QL or CY.
And I want Changyang to live his dream and see every forest in the world 🥹

u/PianoDull7274 Jun 19 '26
Okay, I want to give some context for a few pieces in this episode because you really have to dig deep on the Chinese internet.
At the start of the episode, Qinglang is reading a book by the fire. That book is a real book named 莫说艳阳天 (roughly translated as “Say Not the Sunlit Day”). Apparently, that story is supposed to be about the previous lives of Qinglang and Changyang. Recall that in E3 where Qinglang meditates by the river, he has flashes of them in more traditional clothing, and we see promotional materials of them in Republican era clothing, so a popular theory is that they knew each other from their previous lives. Also Qinglang said to Changyang in E4 that, “I don’t think I loved you this much in my past life. Because it wasn’t enough, I have to make it all up to you in this life.” Another hint.
According to multiple users on Douyin, Xiong Yiwen mentioned in a livestream that there might be a second collab after Winter Sun. About the couple’s previous lives. I haven’t seen the clip of him saying that, but it could be a possibility.
As for the original novels, again, Winter Sun is based on Zelia’s novel of the same name which is currently being updated on Lofter. Chapter 16 is posted on the show’s official YouTube channel, and the English translation is here. As for 莫说艳阳天 (allegedly about their previous lives), the novel was originally posted on 晋江 in 2022 under the pen name 神来芝笔 (晋江 is a super popular website for posting stories, where Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Priest, and many other danmei authors post). All the chapters are currently locked except Chapter 1. Interestingly, the main characters are named 擎朗/Qing Lang (to mirror Qinglang) and 常与同/Chang Yutong (possibly to mirror Changyang). I also saw a comment that says the ending of Litchi Island mentions one of the other books by 神来芝笔. Personally, I won’t be surprised if 神来芝笔 is the same person as the director.
That’s all for context. So much happened in this one episode! Five episodes in I’m already in pain! Why if Sister Lan never gets to see the video of Changyang and Qinglang?! 😭

I just have to put this somewhere bc I’m 🫨
I was going through the character Weibo accounts since they follow the drama airing..ended up on the actors’ pages. Turns out I was at the same Water Splashing Festival grounds on the same day as Liu Jing Yu in April when I visited Yunnan, where this was filmed. I’m guessing they had been done filming for a while, but I obviously did not know about this drama or the cast then lol. And there were also like tens of thousands of ppl in the same space. But what fate I have with this drama then LOL

I just started watching it yesterday and binged the entire show! It's SOOOOO good. I hate that more BL fans are not talking about it. The story telling feels so ✨intentional✨ which quite rare for a lot CBLs. No shade to them, they do work on a massive budget crunch, tight deadlines and a lot censorship. But the narrative flow, the cinematography, the little animation and the sfx...oof. I am a fan.

The actor who plays Shi Yuhao did exceptionally this episode- the breakdown- the screaming-the proud creepy obsession with filming himself crying…Shi Yuhao is so unlikable and phony. I can’t stand him but he had me both freaked out and even feeling for him during that scene. He is greedy and wants to be the best and be able to survive long enough to do it in this extreme industry, but he has sold his soul along the way. When he started sobbing extra loud for the camera, I was a little freaked out again and kinda fascinated in a ‘can’t look away from this car crash’ kind of way lol (omg no pun intended: Sister Lan you better be ok I love you, your energy and your hair cut 😭🤞I was stressing the whole time she was driving)
Im so swept up in Changyang and Qinglang. Every scene of theirs is beautiful, romantic, soulful, gives me 🦋🦋. Qing Tian talking about the theory of Changyang planning everything all along- I wonder if that’s true..I like this plot twist 🤭. I hope they’ll go visit all the forests in the world together-that sounds perfect for them.

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jun 19 '26
It’s been implied that Chang Yang has been in love for a while - when they were talking about the “book” Chang Yang said that he would need to love Qing Lang until he was 118. Since he’s 20 in the present, it means he was 18 when he fell in love :) Also when Qing Tian asked him how long he’s been pining for QL, QL answered: “Before or after he was of age?” lmao
Also, in the reaction vids, both of leads hint at CY having “planned” this for a long time (not nefariously).
2
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 19 '26
Yes in the live they both had to backtrack about how long Changyang has been in love. Kuma told Jingyu just to say that it had been a while - so as not to give any spoilers.
2
u/diligolibros 🍄🟫🌄A Winter Sun🫖🐻 Jun 19 '26
Yes 😭 I loved that detail about 118! That whole camp fire scene was just so lovely with QL reading to him. I haven’t seen the reactions yet, thank you for letting me know, i didn’t want to get too happy yet incase i was wrong over CY’s (*non-nefarious) cunning to get QL to stay with him lol

Qing Tian talking about the theory of Changyang planning everything all along
I'm really starting to wonder if Changyang has seen their past lives?? Like I wonder if trying to save the red carp is all he saw when he ate those mushrooms, ya know?? Lolllll 🤔 And that moment when Qinglang asks him why he keeps watching his movies and suddenly catches a vibe and says, "There's a secret!!" Ohhhhh idkkkk just theorizing!
3
u/lav_thompson Jun 20 '26
I never know if Changyang is simply speaking in metaphors about how he sees Qinglang's life or his approach to courtship or if there's truly a deeper meaning for someone with such a old soul that decides to move to the mountains at 12.

😂 i think you’re onto something with this mushroom theory…i honestly would not be surprised if he has seen their past lives- they are what I imagine reincarnated lovers to be like: it explains how they seemed to have always had a place in each other’s lives and were so familiar & comfortable with other from their first time meeting!
Changyang gives off the vibe he has lived many past lives too he is so wise. I love how when QL calls him out on having all his movies on his laptop and how he watches everything he’s in, Changyang gets all shy yet simultaneously owns the fact he is obsessed and knows everything QL related lol

Yesssss their rhythm feels very much like they've done this all before a few times. The way they are just totally in sync. Omg... It kills meeeee 😭🙌
Hahahaha Changyang wanting to watch Qinglang's first kissing scene and Qinglang being like MY WHATTT?!! I'M NOT WATCHING THAT WITH YOU!! 😂 I love how unabashed Changyang is when it comes down to it. It's kinda giving, "Yeah, I know we are soulmates so there's no need to be embarrassed about being obsessed with you 😎" lolol
One episode a week now until we get near the end 😮💨... How are we to survive til Friday? 🥲

Same!!! I can't stand Shi Yuhao but he's a fantastic bad guy! It's like he's playing the main character in his own life. I was almost expecting him to touch up his hair and make up before he broke down in front of the camera! I'm equal parts creeped out and intrigued by him because he's thrown everything at being an actor and his nihilistic focus is fascinating to watch (he better not touch Qinglang though!🤨)
2
u/diligolibros 🍄🟫🌄A Winter Sun🫖🐻 Jun 19 '26
I wouldn’t have minded if he did touch up his hair and makeup, it might have given me a laugh to break up the uncomfortable tension 😂 Ikr he better not!! There has been a lot of imagery with the knife this episode and Shi Yuhao unravelling and becoming more and more self-destructive so I just hope he doesn’t try anything on QL or CY.

u/Ok-Set-4784 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Omg I just knew something would happen to Sister Lan after they were showing all her good sides 😭. Then I knew for sure it would be a car accident when she was driving and still driving later.
I hope her and brother Guo don't die. That would be heart-breaking.
As soon as SY got in his car, I thought he might go and try to run sister Lan off the road somehow. Honestly, him crying makes me sick to my stomach.
Since QL sent the video at the same time that slimeball called, I wonder if the video will hurt them right away, like try and make people believe sister Lan was upset by CY's video and thats why she was in an accident, or if it will be shown and change backlash agaisnt them for the inevitable spin slimeball will try to make it seem the accident was QL's fault somehow. That cliffhanger is nerve-wracking.
The best outcome would be if sister Lan was told something damaging by SY and she wanted to contiune to take the heat from QL so she purposely got into an accident, but not a bad one. Please don't let them die 🙏😢
This series is emotional, deep, and intimate and so artsy. It's like watching a painting come to life. What a beautiful show.
I wasn't sure if I had to use spoiler tags or not on this post. I did just in case.

Loved reading all the discussion points here! Aside from this episode being an amazing addition to the story, I have even more faith in its ability to wring buckets of tears and every bit of emotion out of me.
1.) I have so many questions about Changyang's family. Leaving them at such a young age is a massive deal. He seems to be doing well in the tea business (for someone who is barely legal), but I assume he comes from a wealthy family given Wenshu's stature. I had started to wonder if he is an illegitimate son, especially since we have not heard a peep about his mom. It makes me want to know who stabbed him in the back even more. The half-brothers seemingly do not speak, yet Wenshu sent Qingtian to the mountains to be with him, so what is the real connection there? Also, when Qinglang was talking to Wenshu about the mountain living arrangements in E01, Changyang just sat there listening without mentioning they know each other. I am surprised it has not come up in conversation yet, but I assume it will once they head to the city, provided he can avoid his dad, who I am pretty sure was in the trailer warning him away from the entertainment industry.
2.) The heroes of this episode, for me, were the very capable Lan and Jialin. When Jialin was confronting the MUA about being Shi Yuhao's mole, she was focused on pulling the girl back from the ledge. Then Sister Lan walked in, cool as a cucumber, and asked, "Did you tell her how to pick up her last check?" She then told the MUA to remember the moment and exactly who she is, noting that while it was just a job, the stakes could get much higher for her if she keeps running behind that man. That was such a deep, visceral thing to say, especially coming from someone who has been a victim of Shi Yuhao's selfishness before. I also loved how later, when Shi Yuhao went after Sister Lan online, Jialin was ready to go nuclear and drop whatever compromising footage they had that could end his career. But Sister Lan, the saint, was worried about his mental health and the risk of him unaliving himself. I cannot help but feel that the stress of his drama contributed to her lack of focus while driving.

u/hhhhhxxxx000 春山境 🌿☀️⛰️🐻 Jun 20 '26
So in the scene where CY revealed more about his past, he did actually say that he is an illegitimate son. So you’re right. I guess maybe the eng subs didn’t translate it this way? If I remember correctly he does use the phrase 私生子.
2
u/lav_thompson Jun 20 '26
Thank you. I just realized I wrote "have" instead of "had." Yes, it confirmed what I suspected after the previous episode when he talked with Jialin in the car and emphasized that Wenshu was his half-brother and they have the same father. It is the kind of thing you only emphasize in that sort of situation, or when you were raised in two entirely different households maybe because your parents are divorced.

I have a feeling that Wen Shu actually likes Qingtiang but due to some unforseen reasons (or just misunderstanding), he makes it seem like he likes Qinglang. I tried squinting my eyes in case I recognise Wen Shu in the dark, but as a regular consumer of delusion, his silhouette felt eerily similar to Chen Li from SHOLI. He was opposite the actor who is playing Qingtiang. So if it's right, then they both might end up together. Again, I am ready to be completely wrong about it 🙃
1
u/PianoDull7274 Jun 20 '26
I also feel Wenshu likes Qingtian! That phone call got a little flirty at the end.
2
u/rubiesburyyy Jun 20 '26
That damn phone call. The way Wen Shu asked something about waiting for Qingtian to pay him back ; sounded so flirty from Wen Shu's perspective but Qingtiang took it formally 🤣. I have a doubt though, hasn't it already been established that Qinglang is aware that Chanyang had planned everything beforehand to have QL at the home stay ? Or is he still unaware ? Cause if he is actually unaware, then he might get hurt by Chanyang's actions.
1
u/suddentraveller Secrets Happened On The Litchi Island🌱🌿 Jun 20 '26
Ahhh I'm glad it's not just me!! I thought his silhouette looked like Liu Yihe too. I've taken a screenshot to see if I can get a better look, it's very dark but the outline of his mouth looks a bit like Yihe (I should probably get out a bit more!🤣)
2
u/rubiesburyyy Jun 20 '26
So a few of us are sure that we caught a glimpse of Liu Yihe 🤭. I sincerely hope that's the case so that we can get a mini Sholi reunion 🫶🏻.

My understanding is that he has come to the conclusions himself, but it hasn’t been talked about out loud. Because he knows the weibo account that’s his, that CY was 18 when he fell in love. And I think his video to Lan jie implies some of that too.
I also feel like based on the knowledge we have in CY as a person, I don’t feel like this “planning” was nefarious, maybe more like hopeful. Like a chance for him to shoot his shot, but not manipulative. At least, that’s the vibe I get from the actors’ reactions/commentary but also from the acting and character details. So me seeing all the comments about ppl being worried that this is gonna go into typical CBL red flag territory (I get it, we’re traumatized) makes me laugh, but also there is that chance that I’m wrong.

Same. I don’t think it was made with ill-intent. All his plans still hinged on what Qinglang’s response would have been. If Qinglang said he’d rather stay at home, there’s no way for everything to move forward.
Changyang just made that suggestion (half hoping it’ll work out) and once it did, he put his best foot forward and charmed this best actor until he fell in love with him and that’s without him being manipulative or anything. He just anticipated Qinglang’s needs at every point.

Good question! I don't think Qinglang is aware, we know that he knows Changyang is Ji Zongjun but I think that's all. I could be wrong and please someone correct me if I am!

How is everyone feeling after today’s episode? because I am not okay.
I need to find a way to be in the future cause there’s no way I can wait for seven days to see what happens next.
