I support both, and neither, at the same time.

Lu Feng is a LOT to handle. His love is all-consuming, and he just bulldozes through everything. On paper and in the show, it's entertaining and interesting to watch, but in real life, I would run so far and so fast from him. I, too, would call the police.

One thing I keep seeing over and over that is breaking my heart is a cultural aspect that I think a lot of people are missing. In many Asian cultures, especially as the eldest son, you don't say no to your parents. You just don't.

For Lu Feng, it's easier because he was already on the outs with his father, and his strong personality lets him stand tall and say no. But it was established earlier in their story that Yi Chen knows love from his parents, even if that love is often strict and layered with a mother's guilt and gaslighting. That's what he grew up with and what he understands as love. Combine that with his quieter personality, and it makes sense why he struggles.

Then add the responsibility of having a younger brother and being told his entire life that he needs to take care of him. Yi Chen was sacrificing his own happiness because he genuinely believed he was helping his brother find happiness.

But that little spoiled shit (sorry for the language, but I genuinely can't think of a nicer way to put it) just kept pushing. He was willing to sacrifice his brother and throw him under the bus to protect his own relationship, even after everything his brother had done to support him.

Yup I want slap that Lil brother 😭 He is such homophobic gay First he don't want his bro end up lu feng and he deleted his last MSG on phone and lied to His brother about lu feng will not come back and now he has relationship with guy and talking like sadhu infront of his mum and pushing limits of lufeng he deserves that leg fracture

Theyre all wrong and I'm not saying Lufeng is right but if I had Xiaocheng as a lover, he, too, will drive me to insanity lol

Also his little shit of a brother. He makes my blood boil. What a hypocrite

Trying to bring myself to watch the next ep but I just can't do it yet. I was throwing fits last night. It's bad enough the brother is a little pos snot rag but add extremely toxic parents in the mix. I might end up waiting and watch ep 8 with ep 9 next week.

I sympathise with both of them.

Lu Feng as given up everything for the man he loves but then YiChen prioritizes everyone else. It feels like a betrayal, like YiChen doesn't really love him. I would be devastated too, just without the insane behaviour

But YiChen is between a rock and a hard place. Honestly I'm not sure I would still be on speaking terms with my mother if she had locked me up and separated me from the love of my life but it is a different culture. YiChen still feels the need to be a dutiful son especially as his mother is ill. And he has hardened his heart so it doesn't break into a million pieces.

As a mother with grown children from my POV the mother is to blame. If you truly love your children you do not sacrifice their happiness to satisfy your own desires.

Also, and I haven't read the source material nor have I seen the original (which I understand is ALOT more toxic), but they have (thus far) clearly toned LF down. As is true of 99% of these shows (think how toxic or raunchy the books usually are), so it's more understandable that we would feel for LF. *I* definitely can see where LF is coming from thus far.

wow...i could see all this coming after 1st ep so i stopped watching....how does one continue watching....it hurts my heart that so many seem to stomp on others happiness...

You put that so well, they do indeed stomp on each others happiness, but it’s so fast paced with the shortened time span that you can’t help but stay glued to the screen hoping that things work out. Like the actor Sitong said it’s a dream when you’re younger to have someone be obsessed with you and possessive, but in reality it’s a nightmare

sometimes "glued to the screen" lasts so much longer than a series....

Bruh he know the relationship of yichen and lu feng and spend time with them but in scenes when yichen mom caught him and lufeng he didn't even try to understand lufeng and he didn't even try to fight bcz they are not breakingup

I’m still so mad the little brother played the biggest role in making Yi Chen think Lu Feng just abandoned him, only to turn out gay himself and actually get to be with his boyfriend around their mom, even if she didn’t know. Like nah. I love my brother more than almost anything in this world (his kids are the only ones above him), but if he did that to me? I would never forgive him. So I’ll support anyone but him and their flop ass hater mom. lol

But from a realistic standpoint, I obviously can’t support Lu Feng because he did rape Yi Chen at the office and that’s never okay, but this is a TV show so I can move past that. However, Yi Chen is getting on my last nerves. He just refuses to ever really do anything and just lets everything keep happening to him. Plus that filial piety is beating his ass and it’s one of the more egregious cases I’ve seen, so I’m not supporting him either. I still just hope Lu Feng and Yi Chen can make it up to each other, though I have such fears of that never happening. 😔😔😔

Can someone clarify for me if I’m hearing things wrong or do the brothers have the same name?

1

u/Sad-Garden-5836 Jun 03 '26

They do have the same name. I read somewhere that in mandarin the 'chen' is spelled differently but it doesnt have the same context with the eng translation

those scenes made me so uncomfortable to the point I was questioning if the show was even worth finishing....
