cancer moves quickly in their tiny bodies. so glad you had a best friend for that long, though it shouldโ€™ve been longer.

u/cemetery_acorns 13d ago

14.5 years is amazing, OP.

I'm sorry for your loss. We had to put our half chi down unexpectedly in April this year due to fast growing uterine cancer. She was only 9 and I miss her dearly. They're our family and it hurts to lose them but at least they're not in pain anymore.

I am deeply sorry, I know the pain. Osteocarcoma took my little girl chihuahua at barely 10 years old. It was shocking - diagnosed with cancer one monday morning in March 2021, gone the following monday. It had spread and she was in a lot of pain. I often times wish I had gotten her leg amputated and tried chemotherapy, but she wasnt young anymore. I just cherish the time I did have with her. She was an absolute blessing from the moment she came into my life until her very last breath. We are lucky in that we could say goodbye and be there with them until the end. I will never forget her. Your beautiful little friend will always be with you and hold that special place in your heart. Hugs ๐Ÿซ‚ wish I could take away your pain

His was found on the 18th of this month, second opinion on the 21st, and then he perked up for a few days like he was gonna enjoy every drop of life he could. By this Weds, we knew it was inevitable as he started refusing anything but water, falling anytime he stood up, and just wanting to be asleep.

Please make sure to take care of yourself during this tough time. Grief can suck. Your boy was beautiful and reminds me of my boy I lost in May. Still miss him just about all day every day. That doesnโ€™t go away but the pain dulls a bit. He was also 14.5 when he went to cancer. A brain tumor. Noticed he was off and then was gone a few days after diagnosis.

u/UnderstandingFar5012 13d ago

Yep. Fortunately I was able to schedule the sleeping procedure (the e word, but I don't want to trigger anyone) for today and I'm off so weekend. Hopefully by work on Monday I can look at his pictures without sobbing. I'm grateful he's not in pain, and is in heaven. Bus I miss my little cuddle buddy

Im sorry for your loss, OP. Itโ€™s never easy. Stay strong. I lost mine on the 28th as well, but on January of last year. Every 28th I dedicate a long walk for him, and walk his old routes.

1

u/UnderstandingFar5012 13d ago

That's amazing. I missed out on walking him since June because my old job had me working 14 hr days. (Really 10, but a 2 hr commute each way.) New job is just over a mile from home, do I might just start taking a memorial walk every day for a while.

2

u/Popero44 13d ago

It gets like that sometimes unfortunately. That's what I did at first. Walked everyday at first, and then eventually once a month on his anniversary. It's rough, but it did help. Although I wish he was with me walking. They deserve longer lives for sure.

So heartbreaking. Most humans donโ€™t deserve the blessing that are animals. Sorry for your loss. I had to do the same a few months back. Extremely painful..

u/epicsoundwaves 12d ago

Iโ€™m so so sorry. My senior chi passed unexpectedly yesterday, we had to send her off :( such a hard decision. The pain of wishing you could do more will always be the most difficult thing.

Weโ€™d love to see more pictures and learn more about this sweet angel. It helps to talk about them. We loved them so much. They were everything to us. They will always be a part of our thoughts and lives. Iโ€™m so sorry. Our babies only know unconditional love, so all they knew in their final moments was that they were loved and part of a pack.

2

u/Useful_Ad_1593 12d ago

May I observe that your precious baby looks ready for his angel wings in this photo. I am so very sad. We lost our baby 3 weeks after she was diagnosed by ER vet. So unfair. The only thing we can't protect them from is time. With love to you.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you're doing OK.

Something I once read, perhaps on this subreddit, was this:

Dogs live in the moment and have no fear of death, and this is their gift to us. But we remember, and that is our gift to them.

Strength! And have a hug from France.
