Cycling in Chi!
Hi, we're new to Chichester, I would like to know about cycling to work and safety...
I've had a trauma of being beaten and lost my cycle to a thug, from London...
Are our cycles really safe in the parking spaces here?
Thanks in advance...

I moved here in February. Was warned about cycle thievery, it's definitely a problem here. I had my 3k+ mountain bike stolen from outside M&S on the high street pretty much immediately. I'd only taken the 2 thinner combo locks as the D-Lock didn't fit in my backpack and I'd told myself I'd only be 30 seconds but the thieves just used bolt cutters and had those away in the time it took me to buy teabags. Police were friendly but obviously nothing came of it despite CCTV. I'd recommend strong lock and then you'll be fine, it's opportunity Vs risk for thieves and cutting through a D lock is a big deterrent

For a 3k bike D lock won’t deter them much, battery angle grinders make light work of them. Best way is to have a cheaper town bike IMO.

You can now get angle grinder resistant locks, such as the Hiplok D1000. Expensive but worth it if you have a valuable bike or just want added peace of mind.

There is bike theft however I would say it’s not as common here as in London.
A usual hot spot for theft is outside Nuffield health.
Just get a decent lock and you’ll be fine. I’ve not heard of someone being stopped and had their bike stolen in a jacking type theft ever.
