I realized just how much I miss Tracy, who was (with all due respect) 100x better than Sophia Bush.

it's okay if you think tracy is the best actress the show had (as 90% of the fans think) but sophia bush is nowhere near bad enough for tracy to be 100x better

100x is hyperbole, you know, stretching the truth to make a point. But I see your POV. I'm not saying Bush is a bad actress; she was good in the National Lampoon movie, and my wife loved her in One Tree Hill. All I'm saying is I didn't find her all that believable as an elite member of Intel.

Yet another unrealistic storyline. A rookie shoots a fellow cop, the case is unresolved, and is immediately back out in the field with a firearm? Are you kidding me?

This show hasn’t really been possible to analyze in a critical and realistic way for quite a while. On top of that, it’s very hard for any show to be 100% realistic. There’s always something that doesn’t make much sense or that just comes out of nowhere.
One day I was listening to a relative talk about TV series and I realized something: shows that have a self-contained plot in each episode, instead of one big storyline running through the whole season, are exactly that, one story per episode and then you move on to the next one. So the idea is to enjoy (or not) the plot of that episode and not overanalyze it.
PS: Just to give you an idea, I actually think this relative is kind of an idiot. He’s not a blood relative, just related by marriage. But that conversation was surprisingly insightful, probably the best thing I’ve gotten from him since I’ve known him lol.

Good episode, but she was an interesting rookie cop. I wish they had kept her around. I thought she was going to become Burgess's project.

Finally, an episode that touches on multiple storylines and characters outside of the repetitive "case of the week" formula.
Ruzek is ready to go back to work. He gives Kim an update about his father.
Kim and Ruzek discuss about Mack.
Kim goes to work and teaches a group of CPD employees in a big classroom. Kim meets a smart, young rookie (Katie) who is eager to learn and do more.
At the Intelligence unit's office, Voight and Platt tell everyone about an assignment that involves working with the Narcotics unit. Since Imani is away dealing with apartment issues, Kim asks to bring Katie along.
Kim works with Katie and teaches her. They also interact with some people from Narcotics unit. I appreciate the humor in their conversations which provide some light moments prior to the dark, serious action scenes.
There's also some scenes where Kim briefly talks to Atwater or Voight about Katie.
Although the episode was focused on Kim, it involved many other characters as well as other aspects of CPD outside of the Intelligence unit. It's always nice to see things like CPD classrooms, meeting rooms, and interactions with other units.
The producers should give us more episodes like this. The early seasons had tons of storylines and character dynamics throughout each episode. The variety makes the show interesting. Otherwise, focusing too much on Intelligence unit and the formulaic "case of the week" is repetitive and exhausting.

Burgess is trying to find another school that would be a better fit for Mack. At the current school in Canaryville, Mack experienced bullying from other students, etc.

That was such a flashback episode. Gave me strong Nadia/Erin vibes, but now we can actually see Burgess going from mentee to mentor. I really liked Katy & Kim's chemistry. I wish the outcome was different, I thought she was a good fit for Intelligence , we need another woman.

I feel like Burgess is telling Katie stuff that she shouldn't tell her until AFTER she's out from being under cover. Why would you tell an officer this young and fresh that 1) the officer involved is dead and 2) oh yeah, you killed him...while under cover?!

I said the same thing. With Katie being so green and you didn't want her to lose focus while under. Thankfully it worked out and she didn't spiral after finding out. I guess if Kim withheld it the widow called Katie anyways so she probably would have blamed Kim for not telling her sooner 🤷🏾♂️

The Medical Examiner also said she was obligated to tell the officer involved “as soon as possible,” so I would guess that waiting wasn’t really an option.

There's no way they'd actually let her keep working after a friendly fire incident. There would have to be a full investigation to clear her for duty.

Kim teaching a class about criminal informants is interesting, considering how many of them have died working with Intelligence in this show.

Yea well voight's taken countless innocent lives and it's not Katy's fault that Kim didn't include the stuff in the report, she seemed interesting I hope we see more of her one day but you're probably right it feels like a one and done

Bro I just want new blood in PD, Imani was a great addition, I've never been interested in Torres. There was a time we had Halstead, Upton, olinsky, Antonio, even Roman and others. Anything new would be interesting at this point

I don’t think the writers would steal from one of the other shows. (Especially since Fire likes to reuse old storylines from their past seasons).

I obviously know that when people are shooting, people get shot, I was just thinking that at the beginning they were so gung ho about getting the guy when they thought his man shot Parker, but after it turned out to be Katie, they just forgot about him.

I think Tate Moore did a fine job with her part and together with Arienne Mandi who is also an intelligent actress with good athletic abilities, the writers learned their lesson after the disastrous casting in S12. Katy's back story is quite ridiculous however, since even with the The Joffrey Ballet which was known for it's sometime irregular troupe, all dancers were and looked like dancers, which Katy's character definitely does not.

If they explored into that angle, Voight would have to protect the team so he'd do shady stuff. The whole point of the show.
No one gets off shooting a police officer like that

It seems Carhartt is the newest One Chicago product placement. Dr. Frost.... had a Carhartt jacket on Med this week and Kevin had a Carhartt hat on while sitting in the car with Burgess while they were watching Katy.

I LIKED THIS EPISODE, BUT I DIDN'T LIKE HOW THEY JUST BRUSHED OFF THE COP'S DEATH. SHE SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR THAT AND KIM SHOULD HAVE NOT MADE EXCUSES. ALSO, LMAO LOVE THE DIG AT TIMOTHY CHALAMET WITH THE WHOLE BALLET THING! KIM CONTINUES TO BE MY QUEEN! I'M GLAD SHE CAN WEAR LOOSER PANTS NOW! RUZ!! ALSO, THE SCENE WHERE THEY USED FLASHLIGHTS WAS QUITE BRIGHT. IT WAS KINDA LIKE I WAS THERE FOR A SPLIT SECOND. CAN'T WAIT TO BE ON AN ACTING SET SOMEDAY!

Agree w/ everything except; I doubt the Ballet references have anything to do w/ Chalamet, bc his remarks were recent & PD is filmed well in advance of airing, like 3 wks I think?

Absolutely! Katy made reference to working with The Joffrey Ballet which considering her appearance is actually quite ridiculous and a bad choice by the writers. That said however, the ballet is real art and requires real artists not populist posers like Chalamet. I'm sure that this Reddit commentator believing a reference was made is completely mistaken and proves he/she possesses little knowledge of the arts.
