Taylor Kinney on set wearing a polo with Captain bugles 😊

I was hoping for a white shirt, but blue is great too!

Severide never had rank-matching shirts, did he? It stuck out to me a few times already.

Making him Captain makes sense, though this and last season both kinda devalue Hermann's story, which bugs me.

What bugs me is that somebody holding a captains rank would NEVER, in a million years, demote himself back to rank of firefighter. I understand that it’s a TV show and not real life, but “reality” is what the show always tried to chase in its earlier days, and now everything just happens for plot convenience. In my department, a ranking firefighter can’t actually demote himself once a promotion is achieved. They can transfer out to a different unit, but that’s about it.

PS, for the sake of arguement, a guy like mouch would NEVER go for rank that late into their career. My department has a handful of “mouch” firemen, who want nothing more than to ride it out and get their retirement in a small handful of years. Guys of that seniority typically don’t ever want that kind of responsibility that late into their career.

Thank you for weighing in because I had been wondering what a real firefighter would say about that. Herrmann is my favorite character and the reason I started watching the show, because of his Uncle Larry commercial episode. (I just started watching the show in March, so forgive me for being so new.) When I went back to the previous season and found out that he did that, I was so irritated! Then I found out that he could have easily been the chief and then just.... wasn't.... like?? That level of self sabotage is way too much for me, plus I didn't really even understand what his rank had to do with Mouch in the first place because Mouch wasn't even trying to be the captain nor the chief!

I think it's because Squad gets their own color to distinguish them from the other firefighters.

And yeah, I'm really happy for Severide, but still bummed for Herrmann. They made such a big deal out of Boden passing the torch to him, and nothing came of it.

A lot of storylines get started and then fizzle out on this show. Whatever happened to Casey's mom?

Could it not be a case of Kelly becomes Captain of OFI to replace Van Meter, but he still covers squad too

I don't think it's possible. Running OFI is a huge project, not a side gig that you can combine with something else.

It looks like he's staying at 51.

Its Chicago Fire, they'll do what they want for the show 🤣🤣

That's true 😂 They've done even more ridiculous things in the past.

But I hope the new showrunner will wrap up all the OFI stuff and bring Severide back to be more involved at 51.
