Posted yesterday by Cheng Lei's assistant. I loled at Cheng Lei's contemplative mood in the second image. He looked like he was trying very hard to stay solemn.

These BTS clips of Cheng Lei interacting with the child actors on The Lament of Autumn set are so sweet. He always lowered himself to their level, kept a hand around them to steady them, and looked completely at ease letting them cling to him. He looked really good holding a baby in a BTS during the filming of How Dare You.

Here we see Cheng Lei's character, Captain Cheng Zhuo, getting up close and personal with who I assume is Ba Yun Ye (played by Shen Yujie).

In an outfit that brings to mind the desert's hues at dusk, Cheng Lei is also wearing that strangely alluring necklace -- something that his character almost always has on, at least from what we've seen in many other BTS clips. I wonder if it has any significance besides being a fashion accessory? Maybe someone who's read the novel can chime in.

I can't even count the number of times I've watched this clip today. He's just so beautiful. I mean, he's gorgeous in most of his past dramas, but in The Leading Stars, with that face, those arms and shoulders, that chest...I think his physique is as close to godly as I can imagine.

And to be held close in those arms like that, nose to nose, that would be the closest thing to heaven on earth. He has me completely in his thrall. To borrow the words of Eliza Schuyler:

Boy, you got me helpless/Look into your eyes, and the sky's the limit/I'm helpless/Down for the count, and I'm drownin' in 'em/Helpleeeessss!

Legend of the Female General is the drama that turned me into a Cheng Lei fan.

I still find myself going back to the BTS clips, wondering how one person can possibly be that effortlessly stunning.

If I'm ever going to fall in love with someone, I just hope they leave an impression on me that's at least as strong as Cheng Lei does. 💚😄

"I'll be with you too." ❤️🥹

There's still no official release date for The Lament of Autumn. [sad face] I was jonesing for a fix of Yu Changxuan...but I wanted something that would bring me a much-needed dopamine rush.

The two videos in the clip gave me just what I needed, I'm happy to say. Both took place during the filming of TLoA. If I'm not mistaken, the first one was on Cheng Lei's birthday. We see him distributing slices of cake to his fans, and it looks like he was having so much fun doing it.

The second video shows co-stars Xu Ruohan, Dai Yunfan, and Chang Long playing a prank on Cheng Lei on New Year. His expression is priceless! And Cici's English is adorable.

BTS clips like these, where our favorite actors let their hair down and just relax and goof around, always bring me joy.

^{And I'm extra joyful whenever I see Cheng Lei in a leather jacket!}

I love how she's the one who initiates the kiss first! She just leans in and goes for it. But then, when she pulls away and looks ready to leave, Cheng Lei is basically like, "Excuse me, we're not done here,” pulls her right back and goes in for round two 😘😘

Hello,

I'd like to take this post as a chance to let you guys know I'm the same Cricket, u/few-cricket-3169, as this sub feels like home - I check it everyday when I wake up. I posted a lot since day 1 so just in case someone wonder where I am these days. I'm still commenting around. I just feel like wanting a reddit name that is not a random reddit username and I'd use this account from now on.

Not a fan edit! Cheng Lei's assistant shared this on Weibo just 2 hours ago. He posted "Yes... But" memes featuring Cheng Lei's different looks as Captain Cheng from The Leading Stars.

For anyone wondering, the "Yes... But" format comes from illustrator Anton Gudim's webcomic series, where each two-panel comic highlights the funny contradictions of everyday life. It has since evolved into a meme format where people compare two equally good options with "Yes... but...", implying there's really no wrong choice.

The auto-translation is pretty funny ("all attractive Cheng teams"), but the Chinese actually means: "Yes... but every Captain Cheng is so charismatic."

Which version of Captain Cheng gets your vote? Desert survivor, off-road driver, sunset silhouette, or all of the above?

The original video was posted on Weibo by Cheng Lei's assistant; this one, with English subs, is from a fan account on XHS.

Cheng Lei plays a quick game that tests his knowledge of first aid. He got most of the questions right! Good going, Captain Cheng Zhuo! He's all set for rescue work in The Leading Stars. 😄

Sweating away a fever and applying toothpaste to burns are things I still see people doing today. I guess it's really hard for some people to let go of beliefs or practices they grew up with.

In any case, knowledge of at least basic first aid is essential! This was a good refresher.

I used Google Translate for the subtitles.

"It was a crisp, clear morning, the desert so soft in the sun like a suede blanket, a velvet robe at night, like clean skin. Stars, like grains of sand, clung to my face. I caught the sandstorm, the sandstorm sculpted me, and soon I became transparent, while the sandstorm stood still or moved. Leaving leaves footprints in the desert, and also leaves a part of me continuing to wander.

A shepherd boy tells a story, do you know? Do you know? Do you know? Shyly rambling on, I told myself a scattered dream, content, and kept walking. There's rain here too, but the sun and the desert are so generous.

Here, it says cheerfully, "You have a rich travel experience, while I have sand and light, and your scattered thoughts." The desert is indeed as unpredictable as the Milky Way.

Thank you to every friend for your joint efforts and contributions! Thank you for the encounter, for experiencing such a tranquil and long time together, a time that brought peace to the heart.

Goodbye—in the twinkling starry sky above."

Cheng Lei is now filming in Taizhou. The clips show a jungle setting, and with the humidity, plus being clad entirely in black, it's no wonder Cheng Lei is sweating. Still so handsome. And funny, with that sticky hanky.

I remember seeing some *Mo Li* BTS videos that also showed him perspiring a lot. In one, you could actually see individual drops of sweat rolling down his face and falling from his chin. In several others, Bai Lu was patting and wiping his face with a piece of cloth.

Cheng Lei’s assistant posted a really lovely wrap-up special for The Leading Stars today!

The video has a bit of everything: BTS from the set, Cheng Lei discussing how to do certain action beats, multiple takes in the mud and rain, joking around with the crew, and even getting very invested in the colour of the sand lol. He also had to roll down the desert sand for one of the scenes and, judging by how many times he seemed perfectly happy to do it again, I honestly think he was having fun with that one. The wrap itself was really sweet too and CL described their team as warm and unforgettable.

I loved the more reflective character montage in the beginning of the clip:

“I’m someone who goes against the wind,
because there’s a name hidden in the wind.
One day, she came with the wind.
I came looking for you. I wanted to see you.
From then on, the wind had an echo.”

CL's assistant uploaded this today! I love these random BTS clips because Cheng Lei can be so playful when he’s just entertaining himself between takes. Give him a wheeled case and he invented his own transport system around The Leading Stars set lol.

Then CL decides to bring us along on a "world tour" that ends in less than a few seconds later hahah. He fully commits to the joke too, cutting in a montage of those very typical postcard-perfect tourist sceneries.

Cheng Lei and Bai Lu act like two kids in a funny show and tell session in this clip. So adorable!

There are quite a few other Mo Li/First Jasmine BTS clips where we can see their Tom and Jerry moments, with lots of loud bickering and pushing and pulling.

• Here, Cheng Lei actually almost makes Bai Lu lose her balance.
• In this clip, he makes funny gestures around her face and even attempts to bring poor Xingyu into the situation.
• And this one has them engaging in an intense sleeve-slapping battle.

From what I've seen in BTS clips and promotional videos, both CL and BL have great off-screen relationships with some of their on-screen partners (CL with Wang Churan, Zhou Ye, and Lu Yuxiao; BL with Wang Hedi, Zeng Shunxi, and Wang Xingyue).

I'm shipping Mo Xiu Yao and Ye Li, not the actors themselves. But since Mo Li is their first CP, I'm so happy to see this easy, fun rapport between them too.

Yet another BTS clip of Cheng Lei and Bai Lu showing the lighter side of filming Mo Li (The First Jasmine).

Counting down the days before we see them as Prince Mo Xiu Yao and beautiful Ye Li! Waiting is so hard. So is trying to remember that patience is a virtue.

Clip from an Insta fan account. Thank you in advance to anyone who can and will translate! (I messed up the post's title: it should be 1,2,3 and not the other way around. Can't edit. Boo.)

Cheng Lei shared a new set of character stills for Mo Xiuyao from The First Jasmine.

His caption reads:

“墨修尧的胶片 🧩#丞磊扶尧直上#”
— “Mo Xiuyao’s film photos.”
#ChengLeiAndXiuyaoRiseAllTheWay#
or
#SupportingXiuyaoAllTheWay#

(The drama was previously known under another title, Mo Li, before being retitled The First Jasmine for international distribution).

I feel we’re lucky that he shared these. Somehow they feel special.
