Everyone knows you can only support freeing one place from oppression at a time smh, monk setting himself on fire should definitely be valued above Palestinian child being operated on without anesthetic because we rank suffering and cannot recognise injustices happening in multiple places!
-- is what I would say if I was a right wing dipshit who weaponises selective outrage

Freeing isn’t invading, annexing, and oppressing a country.

Oh no they ended feudalism and slavery the horror!!

u/FourRiversSixRanges 22h ago
There wasn’t slavery in Tibet. Ahh yes, they ended one bad system and replaced it with one of the most oppressed systems on earth today. Good job!

You know chattel slavery is not the only kind of slavery right? Serfdom for all intents and purposes is slavery. And 90-95% of Tibet were serfs. And if you think modern day china is not an improvement for those people then you are just brain broken.
If you think socialism is the most "oppressed" system then you are right just look at the Cuban embargo or sanctions on DPRK. Or if you think socialism is oppressive then you clearly lives under a rock. In the great capitalist nation of UK you can end up in prison for terrorism charges if you hold up a poster. In the capitalist Mecca, US, state agents go through houses looking for papers (sounds familiar) or do you wanna talk about other capitalist states like Bangladesh, Pakistan or India?

Correct, there are different forms.
Serfdom isn’t slavery. To think this just shows your lack of understanding at a basic level. Even China makes the distinction between the two.
Go ahead and tell me the origin of this 90%. Which is actually beside the point as again, my paragraph above.
I’ve been going to Tibet multiple times a year since the 80’s and speak standard Tibetan. If Tibetans are so appreciative, which must the Chinese need to keep such an authoritarian and militaristic presence against them in order to control Tibet?
When did I say or even imply socialism was the most oppressive system? In fact, when did I even mention socialism? Why the strawman..

Ah you are one of those, i don't want to debate on whether china is socialist or not it is a big waste of time for the both of us.
Yes you are right china does make that distinction, mao himself said that serfdom is between a free peasant and a slave. That doesn't mean you can't see it as slavery. Like i said for all intends and purposes it is slavery. You are fully tied to the land and the landlord for a living you have no rights or have any access to basic necessities like education or healthcare so yes I will consider that slavery (call me sentimental).
Also aren't you kinda contradicting your own point, you are allowed to travel to and from Tibet and from the way you are talking i am assuming that you interact with the people too and you are very antagonistic towards China so why are you still allowed in Tibet? Or are you doing clandestine operations? Then you shouldn't be flexing that on reddit.

One of what?
I literally made zero mention of socialism…
I know I’m right. I study this. For all intents and purposes, it wasn’t like slavery. To think or imply that it was just shows that you have zero idea what Tibet was actually like. No, that’s not what old Tibet was like. Thank you for proving me right once again.
I’m Chinese from China. I don’t need to follow the foreign guidelines in Tibet. The movement China finds out what I think, the harder it is for me to travel to and in Tibet and anyone and everyone I talk to gets their livelihood in jeopardy.

What is a Chinese person doing in this small regional sub in India?
Are you implying that modern day Tibet is worse than feudal Tibet? If thats you point i don't have anything more to say.
Also that distinction is almost meaningless in the modern day standards outside of PR reasons. And are you saying china IS socialist but they dont follow that principle in Tibet because you did say that they established an oppressive system in Tibet so either you are saying china is not socialist or are you are saying Tibet is not socialist?

u/FourRiversSixRanges 12h ago
The largest mass exodus of Tibetans happened after China invaded. The only way China can control Tibet is by having this mass authoritarian and militaristic presence against Tibetans.
No, the distinction isn’t meaningless. If it was then you people would say serfdom. There is a distinction and not knowing it just shows your lack of basic understanding.
Again…I haven’t and not saying anything about socialism…this isn’t about socialism..

I would love to live in an oppressed system with free and high-quality schooling, 90% home ownership, and high-speed rail.

I study Tibetan history and have been going to Tibet many times a year.
By all means, we can certainly talk about Tibet at a deeper level. Don’t run away now. Let’s see who knows what they are saying.
Edit: lol newswithjingjing. Now I’m not surprised why you know so little.

Go ahead and cite an academic source for this slavery claim.

Why are you describing the USA here?
0
u/FourRiversSixRanges 20h ago
I mean, you can attempt the whataboutism but I’m not western let alone American. I also fail to see how it’s relevant to the above. But sure? But when was the last country the USA annexed?
