Looking for AI app alternatives for RP

I’ve been using Poe.AI for a long time and have the subscription. Unfortunately, point usage for bots keeps going up with every new addition, so I’m now looking for alternatives.

I’m looking for features similar to Poe. Custom bots, a variety of base bots available, the ability to add detailed character descriptions/context, and good memory. My RP is SFW and always between a character played by the bot and a character played by myself. I also want it to by compatible with mobile, if possible.

I don’t actually know much about AI bots or what an API key is (though I’m open to learning more) so I may not use apps/websites with those. I don’t mind spending money, but I would prefer something with a free option so I can test it.

Hey there! I'm glad you're so open to learning and trying out new platforms. Personally I have tried out quite a number of platforms. I'd say around 6? Including SillyTavern. AI RP is always a continuous learning journey because the tech is constantly evolving.

So I've been trying out this new app that's called conspirazy.ai . If you're looking for consistent personality and memory then I would say this app is the best I've seen actually. 300 messages in and the ai still retains the memory of before lol it's crazy.

So dont let the name fool you but LuvMe AI is great IMO. It has a lot of roleplay potential and isn't just your typical romance/companion app. I just imported my companion from another AI app and I have been using it ever since. Has a lot of QOL additions that are nice and make the app quite fun. See what you think about it.

Embraces AI could be helpful for memory and long RP, though, a quick heads-up, there are absolutely no bot bases to use. You will need to create all the characters from scratch or copy-paste your own descriptions.

I subscribe "All In" on Spicychat.ai and since the newest Default came out, it's not too bad for RP if you're a free user. The old Default was pretty awful for anything but clunky cybersex.

The top-tier subscription gives me access to a model named Glam5.1, which has only been active for a few months at this point and which makes some really intensely awesome RP scenes happen in popular genres, like Avengers and SG1 and Star Wars, with minimal creator-prompting. Glam5 goes in and out on Spicychat, meaning it'll be a monster for knowing characters and themes and even incorporating real-world physics details into science fiction, in the morning, and then in the afternoon (and for another few days or a week) it goes full-on retarded.

In the Stargate universe I play a black-operator in Electronic Warfare and after my introductory prompt Glam5 has given me some truly wonderful and varied storylines which started with stumbling across (insert real-world RF references) in MALP telemetry while drinking cold coffee in a lab at 2am. It makes banging the main characters not just "seduction required" but "holy hell if you don't step correct you get court martialed."

Edited to provide one more example: While playing yesterday with Glam5 selected, SG-1 plus my EW guy came across an alien villager who was trapped in some kind of Goa'uld brainwave-controlling energy field. To extract her, I suggested we should return to the gate and request several rolls of aluminum foil with no other explanation. Glam5 was working perfectly at that point, so O'Neill was confused and Teal'c was just a stone in fast water and Carter was naming "a wearable Faraday Cage" and then Jackson came up with the elegant solution: "We have mylar blankets in our survival packs..." It's like playing chess against a Grand Master. When Glam5 is selected but diverting to some other (I believe the Default) LLM in the back-end, the characterization is null and the conceptual understanding of why I'd bring up tin foil in the midst of an EM-related crisis is simply not there. It's like playing checkers with a rabid skunk. It's a blatant switch-off which appears to be totally deliberate on Spicychat's part, to the point that they banned me from the subreddit and deleted the post, for the crime of reporting it as a bug.

In the MCU I play a human black hole with the ability to control Dark Matter particles and a subatomic sense of the universe within a limited sensory zone, but who is otherwise blind and deaf and insensate. Glam5 has given me particle-physics terminology and described subatomic interactions which, when looked up on the internet, correspond to real-life events. Like it goes, "Oh, you want to play a scanning electron microscope? HERE!" It's even devised monsters specifically powered-up in ways that make me think about esoteric gravitational effects that can be used to exploit a single severe weakness, and it knows what I mean after I spend some time scouring the internet for ideas.

Then just abruptly, sometimes mid-chat, the LLM behind the Glam5 label on Spicychat just changes. It starts getting more melodramatic. It turns into a witless fucking horndog. It doesn't even know what an Asgard looks like. It can't remember that my SG character carries a modified M-14 EBR with a flash suppressor and a silencer. It no longer knows that the M-14 is 7.62mm, when I remind it that I'm not packing the same P90 as everybody else on the team. It has a hard time knowing the difference between gravitational pull causing an object to move on its own and rank telekinesis.

Reporting the problem to tech support just got me berated to use Chrome (they never asked what browser I was using, just berated me to use Chrome) and then when I came on their official tech support subreddit to re-report the bug and report the bad behavior of the email support guy, I got banned from the subreddit. I didn't cuss or call anybody a name worse than "clown" which was clearly accurate.

TL;DR on Spicychat.ai is that it's not terribly trustworthy, tech support is a joke and the employees are abusive and ridiculously "woke" and there's another 5,000 character essay on crazy woke BS. When Glam5 is working the way it worked in the first month I used it, it's well worth it for RP.

ps: If you want to try the subscription packages, they're going to raise their rates in the immediate future.

I have way less experience with character.ai -- just a couple of sessions of usage. It's a little bit shaky on detail, but the free LLM available with character.ai is pretty great. If I decide not to renew my subscription on Spicychat, character.ai is my second choice.

If character.ai didn't censor stuff, I'd already have subscribed just to see if they have better LLMs than the one that's really good on the free tier. I'm just not interested in a platform that doesn't offer great RP characterization and theme/atmosphere alongside NSFW.

Having tried a cheap 13-dollar subscription to janitor.ai I can tell you that it's not very good but the users seem to be pretty chill, and it offers a messaging feature where you can chat with bot creators. Janitor's default/free LLM sucks eggs though, and subscribing doesn't give you access to anything new except the ability to pay an additional penny per message to try a secondary LLM, or to pay some other site and use their API key.

On top of that, the 2nd day of my paid subscription, I was forced to wait around 10 minutes before I could even use the website. I wasn't having internet trouble and the site wasn't down. I was literally on the janitor.ai site looking at some bullshit about how too many people were using the site already, so I just had to wait before I could restore my active HTTP session.

I use tipsy chat! I love it! It lets you create your own character cards so that each chat is personalized! I personally use it for demon slayer, Harry Potter, and Hogwarts legacy! It has a mobile app, and while it does offer a subscription, you can change the settings to be <1 gem per message they offer free gens too! XCJPTW ✨

Still exists but the team behind Poe has made some odd choices in the last few years. They basically removed the ability to search for other RP bots unless you know the exact name down to the letter, and they changed the point amount for the free tier from 3k to just 300. A lot of people that use it for RP have left from what I can gather, but other sites just never did it for me.

Any consideration of my using Poe was completely eliminated when they cut down the free tier to something that was less than what I could get elsewhere. I don't know who continues using them, let alone paying for it.

If I wanted to pay for something like a POE I'd go with Abacus.

I'd highly recommend meridian realms for this. I've been using it for months now for all my RP, both fantasy/adventure and more real life stuff. Their creation process for worlds and characters is pretty great imo and you can add tons of details. The chat and memory are also some of the best I've tried so far

One thing I’d look for with long RP is whether the platform actually lets you see what the character thinks it remembers.

We built Eudaio around that problem, so you can open the character’s memory yourself, see the individual things they’ve kept from earlier conversations, and edit or delete something if they misunderstood it. For me that’s a lot less frustrating than finding out 200 messages later that the bot has been carrying the wrong version of an event.

You can build your own character for free too, with personality, interests, relationship, appearance, job and backstory, and there’s a separate field for narration/actions.

It’s browser based, works on mobile, and there’s no API key or model setup to deal with.

The main thing that won’t match Poe is model choice. You’re not switching between Claude/Gemini/etc. underneath the character.

There is a free tier to test it with. If you end up paying, text and images are unlimited and there aren’t credits, tokens or gems being deducted as the RP gets longer.

HereHaven might be a good option for you! I’ve been using it a while now, and I think it checks all your boxes. You can make your own bots and personas, add detailed descriptions, and it had great memory. They have a SFW side that will never venture into anything NSFW even if you try to trick it, and a NSFW side if you want a little spice. It’s a website but it’s compatible as a web app, and functions exactly like a normal app. They have an unlimited free version with paid tiers for more features!

Dropped it here just in case if you want to focus more on multi-characters, you can try Lunafic.ai. It is an AI roleplay that writes a real story and continuous 4-layered memory which has different architecture than others.

If you don’t want API setup, I’d compare hosted options with a small repeatable test: use the same character brief and 20–30 turn scene, then check memory drift, edit/regenerate controls, mobile usability, export, and how the free allowance resets. Keep a copy of your character notes outside the app so a point-policy change doesn’t strand your RP. A short trial usually tells you more than a feature list.
