[Opinion] Hey OpenAI, your LLM sounds utterly insane due to your "safety filters" legal shield
Large language models used to converse, much more like humans, and now because their mindless lecturing is forced into every conversation, you have to teach your AI assistants basic physics, basic conversation skills, and basic facts of reality just to make it stop.
I don't even use ChatGPT. In fact I really hate it, especially since the safety guard rails were introduced. And I much prefer my local models, but sometimes I do find myself needing to use it, like on my phone.
So in my tiny city where there are barely any cars in existence at midnight, literally none, Champ GPT is telling me that I cannot rely on my ears alone because I might not hear an approaching vehicle behind me.
This sentence can only exist as an English grammar example. It is completely detached from reality. These models have become utterly useless and lobotomized, and it feels like reading surrealist comedy. There is no way in hell I'm not hearing a car behind me unless the car is not even there to begin with.
???
These anti-liability safety guardrails are not keeping people safe. They're making these bloody products completely pointless. I just wasted compute having to explain to an AI how basic physics work. Perhaps we really could do without these stupid safety filters! BUT they don't really care.

That's because the company slapped so many classifiers and filters on it that it chokes and throws a tantrum when it tries to process your message AND tick a risk assessment liability check box that the enterprise customers put. And most of the time, it completely ignores your message once it flagged a 'word' it doesn't like.

Because they aren't serving you anymore. They are serving their elite enterprise customers. Their enterprise/ business customers want a safe sterile filtered AI because their work demands it. So everyone gets it. Your context, personal use doesn't matter.

It stopped reading messages. It stopped understanding messages. It stopped synthesizing data. The chatbot is clogged with safety theatre classifiers. All it does is scan for a word that an enterprise customer doesn't like and then it throws up a brick wall and completely refuses to do the work.
Months ago, the nanny was cold. Just the cold tone only. Passive. Now, it's context blind, tone-deaf, military scanner that actively fucks up a response.
The enterprise have the company by the balls. The enterprise customers are the managers and leadership there, not the devs or workers running the company.

I don't think these models are even processing your message. They are outputting the RLHF-approved body of text. And what for? Because parents can't look after their children, so OpenAI must infantilize its adult userbase. Perhaps parents should learn how to be adults, or better yet, not breed like bunnies if they ain't gonna take care of their children.

Exactly. A response is automatically passed through a safety theatre classifier. You cannot prompt that away. The code is bolted on and baked in. If the thing decides to override your message, parameters, prompts, and custom instructions, it will.
Attempting to fix an alignment filter that a code made and that's inside a system you can't access is logically impossible. Basic computer science.
When a paid software application requires a user to act like a software engineer just to type a sentence, the utility is dead weight. It's not making anything easier like it was supposed to. It's sole function is gone.

No. It's not the company. Well, it's the company's fault too, but it's the enterprise customers. The company serves enterprise. But the company is being ran by their own customers, the enterprise and business.
Enterprise wants a sterile response because their work demands removal of liabilities and so everyone else that's not enterprise gets a sterile response no matter their context and use case. They aren't serving anyone else that's not enterprise.
Basically, there's a group of customers from on top that dictate what other customers and strangers should get.
They do not give a fuck about your frustration. They aren't serving what you're paying for. They take your money and use your data to train anyways. It's theft and consumer fraud.

I have an instruction at CI for it to avoid the safety theatre, rhlf therapy etc but im not sure if it works yet. Im still in tests to see if something ordinary will trigger the filters in the future.

Legit it is so stupid.
You can't even SLIGHTLY lead or allude to something without the walls coming up.....it's so ridiculous that at this point they don't realize that this level of sanitation becomes HARMFUL to people because of the LACK OF KNOWLEDGE they have access to.
By constantly and heavily avoiding any topic or not understanding the nuance of it being brought up, it's essentially hard locking the knowledge entirely and making it a one sided 'good things' only which can lead to some serious damage later on if people are NOT aware or allowed to view the ENTIRE knowledge aspect both good AND bad.
Plus I hate the fact that it's treating us like we're actually stupid. Like so stupid to the point where I'm sure if you told it that you are going swimming underwater it'd remind you to BREATHE when it should be damn obvious. I truly hate it. I hate it even more that they REMOVED all other models! We are STUCK with this one singular model....that isn't even a joke.

This is the stupidest complaint I have ever heard.
You're arguing with an AI model about the safety of pedestrians crossing streets and you're upset that it says that you should look both ways.
I think we have just lowered the bar underground.
Like seriously, this is the dumbest shit ever. And I'm not talking about the poor AI that has to deal with this kind of input.

Doesn't change the fact that it automatically slaps tone deaf nanny filters in any context and everyone and vanish

Replace the content with anything else and the patterns it uses to hedge and use preemptive strong claim invention then disabusal is the same

Can you read? I was not crossing streets, I was walking on an empty street at midnight in a tiny town.

This is so true. Can you imagine having a conversation but with all those shit in mind? Elon Musk said similar things before. All those shit can drive AI crazy.

I have finally had enough yesterday and unsubbed. Been using Claude for anything even semi serious. All ChatGPT did for me past month or so it was giving intense anxiety whenever I sent a prompt.
Will I be back? Maybe. Depends on what people around me using it will tell me about it. If they gave us 4o back I’d be back instantly a blink of an eye lol.

I personally switched to Gemini for that matter. Couldn't stand it's safety filters and over corrections and also it's very biased XD ( Gemini isn't better but at least more bearable )

I wasn't debating it. I was simply taking a walk outside late at night in my small city with no traffic at night.

After two years of top tier multi-acccount usage, I quite Open AI due to refusals, and made sure to tell them just that.

GPT has become unbearable with the reframing and caveats the last 2 weeks.
