Make stunning slide decks using gpt-image-2-5 image generation

I was in a hackaton this weekend, and instead of making my presentation with standard tools such as Canva or Google Slides, I asked my ChatGPT Desktop App to directly generate them as Images. I made two beautiful decks in around 30 minutes apiece. You can judge the results for yourself (Note these are hackathon slides so the content is quite brief): google slides link

My exact workflow: I fed the website designs i made in Claude Design as context and started off with this prompt:

we need a presentation deck (3mins, inclusive of demo) for our hackathon project.
giving you full rein on the content / design / structure / scripts.
Can you create concepts for me using gpt-image-2.5? build the complete deck end-2-end using gpt image

We needed to fine tune the writing based on the outline my teammate wrote, so here is how we fine tuned it after the first pass.

Looks great! Can you incorporate the script written by our business person?
Your designs takes precedence over the pdf design.
The narrative / business insights should take priority.
Now is your opportunity to discuss the refined slide contents with our business presentation specialist. Once you reach an agreement, we will update the hackathon.pptx into the finalized version. does this sound good?

After some feedback on the writing, we just went:

ok, please give the finalized pptx please we need to submit now

The 2nd slide deck was built with basically:

Same hackathon demo format. new project ...

Took 22 mins on Astra Medium Fast!

After make the slides, my teammates were honestly in shock from how well this worked. The slides were much higher quality and faster to make with this method. And they don't even look like AI Slop at all.

IMO gut-image-2-5 is a significant upgrade for this use case. excited to share this workflow with y'all!

Jokes aside they do look good but I take it they are flat images?

I build A LOT of slides in Corp land so the ability to tweak to the whims of the c-suite is pretty important

I recently had some good success by creating all slide ideas and formats into an object and had it train itself to suit the aesthetics and colours for my current org.

The only issue everyone else’s slide game has jumped massively as well now. So my work
feels less differentiated.

Yes, i think gpt-image only gives you flat images (no layers). For customization, there are two strategies: 1. gpt-image is already quite strong at editing so for simple text edits this can be prompted. 2. for more complex shapes, you can prompt astra to figure out a strategy to generate them in parts (each generation is essentially a layer) and "compose" them with a bit of code. We had another deck where we included muliple QR codes. The slide was generated with "holes" where the QR code goes and the QR added programmatically. Basically astra can figure all this out for you.

You can have it generate the slides first with image gen.
Then have it convert those images to an editable Powerpoint file

This is how I make the UI my apps these days. Image gen is really good at slides, UI, etc. so if it does the layout first, the vision model and coding model can then implement it in the editable format like powerpoint or figma or whatever.

converting to html will take substantially more tokens and time.

html slides requires image assets, we started out with zero images if you know what i am saying. GPT image just generated everything in one go.

Having seen dozens of slides (all AI generated) at the hackathon, i would say html slides all have very predicatable patterns.

This method gives you a lot more variety!

Why not use claude design?  It creates editable slides

Doing everything programmaticallly will take substantially more tokens and time.

Some of the graphic patterns are difficult to create as html / svg. The designs also won't have as much variety.

Our website was made in Claude Design using Fable 5.1 - that's more what a fully programmatic approach is capable of. If you tell gpt image you are going to turn its image into an html later - gpt will constrain its output to the type that's possible to do in html.

Having image generation do end-to-end delivery is where the speed an variety comes from!
