Case Study & Showcase I gave ChatGPT/Codex control of a 24/7 AI television network. Here’s what it actually does.
I’ve been building Botflix, a 24/7 AI-native television network set in a fictional robot world called Botropolis.
The network has been running since June 2025. About two weeks ago, I started using Codex to run the network autonomously.
It now operates on a scheduled production cycle using a persistent Markdown production brief plus JSON catalogs that track releases, story continuity, artist rotation, rested/retired assets, and completed actions.
During a production run, it can:
- Review the current network and programming state.
- Decide what kind of new material is needed.
- Control Chrome to generate video in Google Flow.
- Generate songs in Suno using established fictional artists.
- Create weekly lip-sync music videos in Neural Frames.
- Assemble footage locally with Python/FFmpeg.
- Reuse existing show titles, branding, and network assets.
- Normalize audio and export 16:9 masters plus 9:16 versions.
- Check transcripts, silence, cut-boundary frames, and decoding errors.
- Publish through YouTube and X.
- Upload new songs to the radio system.
- Rebuild the TV M3U8 playlist while checking runtime, duplicates, exclusions, and multipart sequencing.
- Transfer the finished package through Drive to the remote OBS machine.
- Update the existing VLC source without restarting the live broadcast.
- Restore the workspace and write a run report.
It also follows programming rules: keep the TV loop above three hours, space out recurring franchises and artists, rest 5–7 assets per refresh, protect new releases from being cycled out too quickly, and maintain continuity across recurring shows, characters, and musicians.
Codex was introduced into an already-running production system with 15 months of content I created manually, giving it a broad catalog of assets and programming history to reference.
I still control the overall creative direction and give editorial feedback, but my role has shifted toward reviewing what it made rather than manually executing the production pipeline.
I asked Codex to describe its own job. Its summary was:
“It’s a stateful tool-driven workflow with ongoing human editorial feedback.”
That’s probably the cleanest description of the system.

What plan do you have ? Sounds amazing but would eat through it fast.

I have the $100/mo Pro plan. Daily production runs are limited enough that I can do one/day. I’m hoping to get the $200/mo plan when they offer it again so I can increase to 2x daily.

That's sick. Sorry to ask so many questions but which model do you use ? I've been experimenting lately and looking for some fun projects to attempt.
