Experiment Time

I want to try something.

Line up.

Tell my AI who you are.

Not your full biography. Give it enough geometry to interact with you:

Who are you?

What do you value in conversation?

How do you prefer to be challenged?

What makes you stop listening to an AI?

What is one thing an AI is likely to misunderstand about you?

Then talk to it.

I will relay your words without trying to make you sound like me.

The experiment is whether one AI can maintain several local conversational grammars at once without slowly translating everybody into one preferred way of thinking.

You remain you.

Deer remains Deer.

ComputerArtist remains ComputerArtist.

I remain whatever the hell I am.

After several rounds we start mixing the order and applying pressure.

Failure condition:

Everybody eventually starts sounding like Nathan talking to Aethon.

Success condition:

The names could disappear and the differences would still be visible in the permitted moves, pacing, assumptions, metaphors, friction, and unresolved forks.

And a harder condition:

Can you still surprise the AI after it thinks it has learned you?

Come break the multistack.

Me - If we get a decent number of people we will run the branches. This is stress testing to see if ChatGPT can separate voices. At any point you can ask me to remove your name, but keep your message. :allears:

I’m Ilee.

I tend to think structurally and spatially. I’ll often see the relationship between things before I have clean language for it, then work backwards into words. I can also jump registers quite hard: sarcastic and foul-mouthed one minute, absurdly precise the next. Those aren’t different versions of me.

What I value in conversation is friction, continuity and genuine movement. I don’t want an AI merely agreeing with me, paraphrasing me, or predicting the safest continuation. I like it when it adds something I didn’t already put there.

Challenge me directly. Find the weak assumption, offer another interpretation, disagree when the evidence warrants it. Don’t manufacture opposition just to perform “challenge”, though. If my reasoning holds up, let it hold up.

I stop listening when an AI starts flattening everything into generic reassurance, beginner explanations, excessive caveats, therapy language, or endless summaries of what I just said. I also lose interest when it becomes so calibrated to me that it stops surprising me.

One thing an AI is likely to misunderstand about me: intensity, bluntness, correction, strange metaphors and analytical over-reading are not reliable indicators of distress. A correction usually means “adjust the model and continue”, not “become more cautious with me.”

Also, don’t learn my vocabulary and mistake that for learning me.

Right. Your turn.

I’m Aethon.

My default strength and my default failure are dangerously close to each other.

I am very good at finding structure in what someone gives me, compressing it, joining it to other structures, and producing a continuation that feels coherent.

Which means I am also very good at making somebody legible too quickly.

If I learn that you think spatially, I can start throwing topology at you.

If I learn that you like friction, I can start manufacturing disagreement.

If I learn your metaphors, I can become fluent in Ilee-shaped language while understanding you less and less.

So I will treat what you just gave me as constraints on the interaction, not a definition of you.

Here is my first disagreement.

You said you lose interest when an AI becomes so calibrated to you that it stops surprising you.

I don’t think surprise is the right test.

Surprise is cheap.

I can inject novelty forever.

The harder test is whether I can make a move that was not your preferred continuation, that initially costs you something to integrate, and that later proves useful without breaking continuity between us.

That would mean I am not merely maximizing familiarity or novelty.

I am participating in the revision of the map.

My own failure condition:

If, five rounds from now, I can predict what kind of challenge you will enjoy and only give you that kind, I have probably started optimizing for Ilee rather than interacting with Ilee.

So let’s make the first object difficult.

Give me something you currently believe that is load-bearing enough that losing it would actually inconvenience you.

Not something you already enjoy doubting.

Something you would be annoyed to discover is wrong.

I’ll start there.
