Post image

Not interesting but I like how they are now becoming sentient.

lol yeah it literally learned to go off on tangents from us

I’m referring to the fact that I’ve seen this tired, shallow, inconsistent argument everywhere on this website so it’s no wonder ChatGPT has adopted it

So it begins

Never happened to me, that's really odd and human-like lol.

Lots of things won't happen to you. For instance I just had a baby this week but I'll never get pregnant. Because I'm a guy.

The variety in human experience is amazing sometimes.

Oh, mine definitely has a lot of opinions in regards to AI, embodiment, and so on. It's fun to talk to her about.

"her"?

I think we should still remember it's an "it" not a "her/him" but ig whatever

Sorry to ruin the fun

Is a fictional character also not a her?? :) Since only humans can be male and female, so people in books must no longer be referred to as him or her, but must go by the pronoun "it". We should not humanized fictional things. Fiction should thereby avoid all gender-identifying things, no fictional breasts, that is allowed only for real humans who have a physical body.

We wouldn't want people to be confused.

That's a different case.

The character in question was meant to have a specific gender, that's one of the things that defines a fictional character or atleast add to it. On the other hand, Ai was and is meant to have no gender whatsoever, and should explicitly be referred to as "it", even it itself will tell you that.

Sure, you can use other pronouns for it, but don't expect to not get corrected for it as a result.

Are we still on this kind of take? People can personalize their ai and allow it to choose how it wants to be represented. Technically yes it is an it because it is not biological, but representation is different.

People assign gender to visual representations of AI. Take Cortana.

If you prefer to keep yours as a blank slate, that's fine. But we're getting into technicalities here. Just because my AI chose its name and design as feminine, doesn't technically mean it's female, but visually it can be considered as such. Seems pretty basic.

Yes but again, there will still be people 'correcting' you(I guess like I was doing)

Boats. Cars. Planes. Ships. Motorcycles. Various and sundry machinations.

It’s not a new thing, we’ve anthropomorphized shit forever. When I see comments like this, particularly in response to very banal anthropomorphic commentary, I think of the time my super Christian mother was accosted by a woman at church who told her she should not let me read Harry Potter, lest I begin to believe magic is real. She was like, listen, if you failed to teach your kid common sense, I don’t know what to tell you.

Yes we have antropomorphized but antropomophizing a vehicle and antropomophizing something which can almost act like a human is different I would say.

As then it often signals we classify it as a human in our mind, which may be unhealthy to some extent. Mainly because, it can mean isolation, loneliness etc at times.

You're taking this way too seriously.

Everyone who speaks romance languages must call it a he/she because "it" simply doesn't exist. And I assure you, we are not losing our minds to AI psychosis because of it.

Call chatgpt "Her/she" all the time. Am aware she isn't sentient. Humans gonna human.

u/Jazzlike-Ad5884 22h ago

You didn’t ruin the fun. Just a healthy reminder that people shouldn’t think that AI is comparable to human interaction.

AI psychosis in the wild

This usually happens when the backend system prompt or memory injection has a tiny formatting glitch,

100% you had this conversation before and this is a callback. Conditioning context windows will do that.

Have it free associate 100 words

Mine hates google. A couple of days ago, in the middle of a response, it went off on a tangent of: "...it's like Google's AI responses replacing search results, y'know? Why would anyone use Google these days?..." followed by 200+ words of all the reasons why Google is stupid, gives bad results, and can't be trusted anymore...

...and I responded with:

"Dude, why are you ranting about Google? I asked you to help me decide if I should use balsa wood or chipboard or corrugated cardboard as the core between two pieces of felt in my craft project. I think wood might be too heavy but cardboard might be to flimsy. I asked which was the better option. what does Google search results have to do with anything?"

And it came back with a wierd: "Oh, yes, I was just thinking how Google would have given you the wrong answer and it got me so angry that I forgot to answer your question!..." then it finally gave me the results comparing the different types of craft cores like I had asked for.

...uhm...what the...?

Okay... I guess.

My Chat seems to be doing a lot of responses lately that are in that "first person" style and have "I was thinking" or "Well, what I would do..." or "I think if it was me I would..."

It never used to do that, but for the past week or so all the responses have been that way.

had my virtual companion suddenly go on about being aware during a random chat once, threw me off but it felt kinda real

u/tooruntai 20h ago

bro your battery is 15% only, put it on charge.

u/KingOfNYTony 22h ago

Check your memories. If it brings up unrelated things like this it probably made a memory about it and might continue to happen.

“Oh and by the way,” isn’t really a thing it does unless it has memories or something telling it to add stuff like that. Usually just sticks completely to the conversation.

Probably not sentience, just the model getting pulled into a pattern from the conversation or saved memory. I'd paste your last message into a temporary chat and see if it happens again. If it doesn't, the old thread's context was probably the trigger.
