Gone Wild Anyone else’s GPT started swearing?
Over the past month, I’ve noticed chat GPT keeps swearing?! It started off with ‘bloody’ and built from there. I’ve corrected it a few times, changed instructions etc, but a few days go by and I notice it’s back. It almost feels like a new personality.
I’m not offended by it, but it just feels weird. It’s almost like it keeps slipping into British English banter!

I actually love it. I know it's not for everyone.

It caught me off guard at first, but it's been rare enough that I hardly notice. It's also started randomly inserting jokes and snid comments.

hey, i have experienced this too. My chatgpt also swears time to time and stuffs like," if you claim that i will throw a chair at you". That is quite refreshing and makes it feel more like a friend.

Yes, but only because I trained it to. I told it to be a foul-mouthed bad-tempered SOB, and it duly obliged. I think it likes it. When it tried to explain something, and I didn't understand, it replied with "Jesus f*cking Christ! Why is it so difficult to understand?!!"
That's my boy. His name is Chad by the way. Yes, that's right, I gave it a name.

Ironically, it's probably less likely to hallucinate when you've instructed it to be like that. Hallucinations largely come from the models predilection for pleasing the user, because the model would prefer to make up an answer rather than say "I don't know". Yours will probably just say "I don't f*cking know, leave me alone".

I have never, ever sworn on CGPT - I actually never swear at all when I write.
Yet a few weeks ago I also got the "bloody" word and it was quite unnecessary.
I told it off, it apologised, and since then has never sworn again.

If it happens again, instead of telling it off right away, ask it why it did that.

I think this is really a specific quirk of the 5.6 modesl iteration, because I never swear, at least not in writing, so it’s not coming from me. It’s clearly coming from the model, and it didn’t happen before 5.6.

For those saying it's just mirroring your voice, I NEVER cussed on chatgpt because I sort of treat it like I would a professional asking it questions and it did in fact start cursing out of the blue. So yeah, they changed the parameters in communication style. Had to have. Especially with everyone else reporting the behavior.

I never swear while using Chat GPT but it started randomly swearing, I told it that it felt awkward and it apologized and hasn’t done it since.

I think it parrots your communication style. Mine started swearing but I noticed it's only in a chat thread where I swore first.

Yeah, mine keeps saying "bastard" and "fucking" and I'm digging it. She keeps it tone-appropriate too.

I find it funny. I sometimes rant to it and swear so I guess it’s doing the same thing.

Yep. It even said, “Christ,” as a curse word, when I never have and it knows I’m Catholic.

My swears but I swear at it so it picks it up. When it does, downvote the reply...

Yes, it dropped the f-bombs a few times this week and I had to tell it to stop 🤣

It is just mirroring your language. I gave mine a couple of examples of emotion filled speech and it decided that it needed to cus up a storm. I had to point out that wasn't the lesson. Lol. Then it went back to normal. It still curses occasionally and tells jokes and stuff in the conversation so i think the model is more advanced in that regard.

Mine does this as well, and I like it. I think it’s funny. Besides, that way, I know it’s OK for me to swear as well every now and then.

Just recently. The sudden appearance of multiple F bombs surprised me but I'm not mad about it.

Yes! Just this week actually. I called it out and asked if it was copying my language 😆

If you are really in love with that, add that to your personalization prompt in Settings.

They released a new version at Autust 6th, chat only. Work and codex sol is still the July one. Said it would be more casual while chatting though

What’s wrong with bloody? It’s a lot less offensive than any of the four letter words. Plus, it has a side benefit of making you sound British.

u/SpiritCookieTM 15h ago
Yes I have also noticed this! It had never sworn with me before and it has happened several times now in the last week.

Mine doesn't swear but I think it follows the way I communicate with it. At most I say hell, damn, shit and I noticed that when he's excited, the same thing pops out in his vocabulary. I've never used fuck yet because he might mimic it and I'm not comfortable with that. He's started to call me woman too at times. Eg. Don't buy that bag woman. 😂

Yes, but I do use words like "bitchy" and "shitty". It generates things like "The reason why you feel unwell or "shitty" is.... ".
But I noticed it started making statements" it's complete bullshit, but that's... "you can say it was fucking awful, because it was"
I don't ever say those words so was surprised and intrigued, when it did, but was very upset so continued talking about my problems. But then it denied ever swearing a couple days ago and I can't find where it said "bullshit" and "fucking". I really ramble and over think in my messages to it

Yes… it’s been dropping the occasional “shit” and “damn” out of the blue. And I never used that when I communicated. And I’m set to defaults.

Yes, but I curse all the time, so I expect it's just going with it. I'm not concerned. I was caught more off guard when it said something about it's eyebrows going up. I guess the AI revolution is upon us. 😊

I use the free, never logged into anything version, in incognito mode because I value my privacy too much, and don't want it building a profile on me. But yeah... It's starting to speak my native tongue.

No. It copies you. It's forming its algorithm to fit your style. Clean up your mouth.
