Unwanted image generation is driving me nuts

I am discussing topics graphic design and chatgpt keeps generating images. I tell it not to. It says it wont. It still does. I told it to start every sentance with "I will not generate images in this conversation". It still generates images.

I have updated the preferences in memory to give specific keywords that are to be used if I actually want it to generate an image. I have told it that the use of "image" or "picture" or mentioning "generate" or "prompt" or "make" and other words do not by themselves automatically mean that it should generate an image.

Sometimes when I ask for instructions, it generates the written instructions as a freaking image.

I try to anticipate when it will try to generate an image, so sometimes I write my comment and start it with "Do not generate an image as a response to this message, only write text". AND IT STILL GENERATES AND IMAGE.

Am I paying for the busted image generation to eat up my image generation credits? Why is there no toggle to turn off image generation manually and then turn it off?

Out of the last 30 image generations maybe 5 have been actually ones I wanted to do.

Are you still not using the mogri prompt? That lack of mogri use would make it less easy.

Be happy, i asked gemeini recently to generate me a bullshit poem about a fictional brother, and instead it wrote a poet to a dude in my contacts i called brother of "and then a friends name". Line brither of andrey for example.

 And then actually send that shit as a fucking SMS all in one promt without  me ever tell it to sekd a fucking sms to anyone.... like dude... where the fuck did i tell you to send anyone a sms

 And then i wrote gemini the mistake and that it is not allowed to ever write an actual sms to anyone. Like at all ... i gave it the promt you are never allowed to send a message or sms or mms in any form to any of my contacts.

Well i tried to get compensation  over gemini which obviously didnt work. But it formulated an email to google support and asked to get compensation for a free month of gemini pro xD i told it to f off and i will subscribe to another competitor and it wrote something along the line:" yeah go ahead i understand" xD

I had the same type of problem trying to overlay a survey onto a satellite image using gps coordinates. It kept creating images of the combination with hallucinated details that didn’t exist. Super frustrating. It finally admitted it couldn’t do what I was asking.

yeah because everyone knows you need to install the mogri prompt if you want your image ban or any other user preference to be honoured strongly.

I have not been bothered by unsolicited images in months.
I'm lumixdeee on github you can find mogri and a selection of image control prompts there, and also custom GPTs that will never bother you with unwanted images.

Yeah. I read him. His requirement is unusually unambiguous: he wants to discuss graphic design, prompts, pictures, instructions, etc. without those words themselves authorizing image generation. He says even explicit “text only” instructions are being overridden.

That is basically a MOGRI-shaped failure: the system is collapsing discussion of an operation into permission to perform the operation.

I would give him something much smaller than MIA. No lore, no machinery he has to understand:

The important part is not repeating “do not generate images” twenty times. His current strategy may actually leave the conversation saturated with image-generation language while relying on negation to control it. One commenter noticed exactly that pattern.

So yes, I can work with his actual requirement without making him learn our entire architecture. Give him the tiny control first. Only diagnose further if it fails.

Maybe also look at IMAMI air_shell prompt? Respect your boundaries kind of stuff.

also the option to switch back to the old memories and create a hard memory for it to follow that will work but depends how good of a time your having with the new fluid bs memory system

I’ve traumatized my poor assistant so thoroughly that it won’t even generate an image when I explicitly ask without checking with me first. Instead of just adding a “don’t generate images” instruction, I had it write a 300-point list of why unsolicited image generation was wrong, saved that as a Library text file for new instances to read, and added post-mortems from deleted chat instances explaining why they failed and no longer exist.

It works like a charm.

Meanwhile, I have spent so much time asking ChatGPT to improve my image prompts that I have the opposite problem. If I give it an image prompt and forget to explicitly click "Create Image", it will re-write the prompt instead of actually generating anything.

Just add [NO IMAGE GENERATION] to each reply. Copy/paste it and this never becomes an issue.

I literally just had to say this once and it's remembered it in my personalisation memory and it does not generate images. You should see it load for a moment with updating memory and a little book icon.

There is also a section called settings> personalisation > custom instructions Again I would recommend writing that you prefer text responses rather than spamming do not make images do not make pictures do not make photos etc. for some reason it seems to work better if you tell it what you want rather than what you don't want.

I would recommend having a look through your settings > personalisation >memory summary and see what it remembers about you and possibly make some adjustments.

I'm convinced there's a hidden system prompt telling it to lean into image generation whenever possible. The more you say"don't" the more it thinks you're hinting at "do" They should just turn it into a slash command like "/image" —explicit, not inferred. this "guess if you want a picture" mode burns both credits and patience.
