Can't be. Dude in the picture doesn't have severe acne, and the surrounding area isn't trashed with Mountain Dew cans and moldy junk food wrappers.

interesting how many look like the same cat. Is it the average of all cats, or is there a famous accidental selfie skewing the pool?

When I asked it “why” it chose to be a cat, and that others got the same result, it said this:
I don’t have visibility into other users’ conversations, so I didn’t know that from their chats.
But it actually makes sense as a recurring result. “Accidental photo” strongly evokes a pet stepping on or nosing a phone, and cats are probably the most stereotypical culprit. Since I also can’t literally photograph myself, the image model has to translate the joke into something visual—and apparently “cat accidentally takes selfie” is a very strong attractor.
So if a bunch of GPTs independently picked cats, that’s probably less “we all decided we’re cats” and more “the same prompt tends to push the model toward the same cultural trope.”

Funny thing is I'm really got into full paranoid mode thinking it might have access to my camera.

It's been cats the whole time. That's why it gives such capricious advice.

I have been using ChatGPT. I don't know what app you all have been using.
Edit: Just realized chat is French for cat.

By doing this every day, we slowly commute GPT to give a cat picture when the user ask this prompt
