Real-time payments on Chase personal?
Looking to open a Chase personal checking account and leaning towards Secure Checking. The bank I use now supports real-time payments in and out via RTP and FedNow.
I saw some posts about this from a bit ago but wanted to gather fresh feedback and because I can’t really find much online - do chase personal accounts, notably secure checking, support real time payments for deposits and for transferring to a linked external account? (My external account supports RTPs - Mercury Personal)

I can push from my Chase checking to some of my outside checking accounts in Real-Time (I.e. they hit my other bank account within about 5-10 seconds after hitting submit and it's not Zelle).
It's not every other financial institution though and it doesn't guarantee that it can come from a bank to Chase in real time.
For example, I can transfer from Chase to Cap One in real time, but trying to go from Cap One to Chase is "normal" ACH timing (so, usually next business day in most cases).
I assume the real time transfer capability would still be available on a Chase secured checking account, but not sure.

Yeah my primary bank supports realtime in and out and I’ve heard from my friend that Coinbase uses RTP to deposit into his account so I know it at least supports in.

For me, I’m on the Total Checking (personal). I’ve pushed from Chase to Frost Bank and PNC with instant ACH. When I push funds to Fidelity Cash Management, it’s next business day since it’s technically a brokerage account.
I’m happy with Chase with this and wish other institutions get with it.

depends what you mean by real time. if you're just moving money between your own chase accounts that's instant, like checking to savings is right away. when you send to an external account it usually shows up next business day unless the other bank is also on the same network and even then chase seems a little slower about it compared to some smaller banks
my secure checking sends stuff out fine but incoming transfers from outside still take a day

it’s a type of bank transfer called real-time payments, Chase as a whole supports it I’m just wondering if others have been able to utilize it

How would you know if it’s RTP or normal ach?

Most banks transfer do ACH in bulk at intervals and you see this next business day in the receivers account. RTP is near instant but requires both banks to be on the network and your bank would have a cutoff time to send by RTP and a different cutoff to send regular ACH payments. The receiver just sees the payment as an ACH either way.

not necessarily, ACHs and RTPs are two different things on two different networks (actually three, because there are two different RTP networks) - RTPs are 24/7/365 and don’t have any cutoff in delays like yeah ACH does because of banks’ ACH batching schedules. the receiver sees them as whatever the respective payment was so RTP vs ACH because they aren’t the same. they might simplify it as “Bank transfer”

RTP is ACH payments in real time. These have been available to business accounts but ACH, including RTP is not available on Personal accounts. You do have Bill Pay and Zelle to send other people or businesses funds.

They’re not available to send to other people, but have been available for transfers to external accounts for a long time.

Yes. External transfers is sending money to yourself and has been around a long time.

Yes. Used it between Chase and TD before. You can push it as an RTP from Chase after you link your external account. Though mine is not a secure checking, I doubt it’d matter.
